Aaron stood up and took a few steps. The pain on his right wing stabbed him, making him fell on the ground, groaning. Then he stood up and walked again, but soon he fell down again.
He felt terrible. For angels, wings are the most important part of their body, and losing a wing would feel the same as they lost their heart or brain. Even if his wings were fixed, they wouldn’t feel the same anymore.
But Aaron kept on walking, taking step by step. He wouldn’t give up. He wouldn’t die here. He would reach the closest village, get some shelter, and begin planning his revenge on Jack...
“Revenge, huh? For a pure angel, you have such a dirty mind.”
Aaron flinched upon hearing that icy-cold voice. Quickly, he turned around...and his brown eyes immediately met a pair of dark ones, without any sign of emotion inside them, making Aaron stepped backwards in surprise and fear.
The owner of the eyes only laughed cynically. “Do you know me, Aaron?”
Aaron blinked, and began to look at the stranger from head to toe. He wore black outfits similar to Gerard and Cesc’s, but somehow his outfit looked much more elegant, decorated by five red stars on the shoulder, collar, and pants. And of course, his folded wings were dark. Aaron had never met him before, but he knew that face.
“You’re Vito,” Aaron said under his breath. “One of the main generals in fallen angels’ army, am I correct?”
“Glad you catch up,” Vito smiled, but there wasn’t any happiness in that smile, and as he spoke, his cold eyes never left Aaron’s.
Aaron gritted his teeth. “What do you want?”
“Oh, don’t worry, Aaron, we’re not that bad,” he said. His tone was perfectly smooth and silky, but it just made Aaron shivering more. “Actually, I’m here to help you.”
Aaron blinked. “Help me?”
“Yes.”
“What can you do for me?”
Vito flicked a dust off his finger. “What about....helping you to take revenge on that friend of yours?”
“He’s not my friend!” Aaron snapped.
“Whatever. But you hold a grudge against him, right?”
“I don’t need your help.”
“Are you sure you’ll be able to take revenge on him with that injured wing of yours?”
Unconsciously, Aaron reached out his wing and rubbed the wounded part. It wasn’t bleeding anymore, but the pain was still there and he’s still too weak to fly.
“I can help you,” Vito repeated. “I’ll heal your wing and assist you in your revenge. But I’m not doing this for free.”
Aaron inhaled. “And the payment is...?”
A sly grin appeared on the fallen angel’s face as he raised his hand so that Aaron could see black fire burning on it. “What do you think it is?”
Aaron didn’t say anything.
“Choose now,” Vito’s voice now wasn’t much louder than a whisper, but Aaron was still able to hear him clearly. “Join us and get your revenge, or I’ll kill you right here, right now.”
Slowly, Aaron raised his head, staring right into Vito’s eyes. Taking a deep breath, he reached out his hand and grabbed Vito’s burning one.
As soon as the black fire touched his skin, Aaron collapsed on the ground, screaming in pain. He had never felt such pain like this before. The fire burned every inch of his body, turning his internal organs into liquid. He couldn’t move, couldn’t talk, even couldn’t breathe anymore as the fire reached his lungs. But Vito didn’t do anything, he just watched Aaron with a very amused expression on his face.
Finally, the fire started to extinguish. Aaron opened his eyes slowly. He still felt like a thousand needles puncturing his body, but at least he wasn’t burned anymore. He tried to rise on his feet and immediately felt thankful that he was able to stand now.
“You look good in that outfit,” Vito said amusedly.
Aaron blinked and looked downside.
He was no more wearing his usual plain white clothes with silver trim. His outfits were now black, with single red line on his collar, shoulder, and pants. His skin’s pale as a bone. The muscles on his body were greater and stronger than before. But the most amazing change was, of course, his wings.
They’re now midnight black, even slightly darker than Vito’s wings. And when Aaron tried to move them, they flapped in such strength that surprised Aaron. Closing his eyes, Aaron extended his wings and flew right to the sky. Yes, he could fly much faster than before, and that fact made him smile.
He would be ready for his revenge.

“Aaron,” a familiar cheerful voice - too cheerful, maybe, for this kind of place - came from the outside of Aaron’s door. “Vito wants to talk to you.”
“What does he want now?” Aaron growled, but soft enough so that the person out there wouldn’t be able to hear him. He went in front of the mirror, straightening his uniform and folding his midnight black wings neatly, then he stepped outside.
Mikel was standing outside Aaron’s door. He was a young fallen angel, banned from Heaven because of joking with his friends in the middle of Queen’s speech, but somehow he still maintained his happy-go-lucky personality. Aaron had a feeling that he didn’t care much about his punishment, on the other hand, he found this place quite interesting. That might be a good thing, but also made Aaron wondering whether he’s strong enough to destroy Heaven.
Aaron didn’t say anything to Mikel, he just walked to the direction of Vito’s room, the younger fallen angel following behind him, for his rank was way lower than Aaron’s. But when Aaron glanced at Mikel, with his new dark wings and black outfits with single red line, Aaron couldn’t help thinking about himself.
The years Aaron had spent in Hell (though most fallen angels preferred to call it ‘Field of Punishment’) by training and exercising had changed him. Though it had been only fifty years since he joined the army of fallen angels, no one would look at him as the soft, weak, gentle-hearted guardian angel anymore. Aaron’s body was now well-built and his wings were the strongest among all the soldiers. He was capable to operate all kinds of weapons, though his favorite one was still sword. Even now he had gained four red stars on his outfits, meaning that he was only one rank lower than Vito.
But though he was busy with all the battles and missions, Aaron never forgot his intention to take revenge on Jack. He had persuaded Vito so many times before to let him leave, but the General refused, stating that Aaron hadn’t been strong enough. But now, suddenly he called Aaron to his room. There might be something. Maybe Aaron would get his chance, finally...
Aaron knocked on Vito’s door. When he heard, “Come in,” he stepped in.
Vito’s private room was nothing spectacular for a General, but it’s intimidating enough for any soldier coming in. The colour of the walls was blood-red, and the same colour applied to his furnitures, curtains, and sheets. On the surface of the walls, Vito hung up a lot of feathers, some were black and some were white, but most of them were covered in blood. Everyone said that Vito took those feathers from all the angels or fallen angels he had killed in his entire life.
Vito’s lips broke into a sly grin as Aaron stepped inside his room. “Ah, Aaron. There’s something I want to tell you.”
“Is it the time?” Aaron asked.
“Maybe yes, maybe no,” Vito said confusingly. “It depends on how you would take it. But I have some news about your friend Jack.”
“For the last time, he’s NOT my....”
“He’s dead, Aaron.”
Aaron’s jaw dropped. “What?!”
“He’s been killed in a battle,” Vito continued calmly. “One of our soldiers stabbed his heart. I’m sorry for telling you that, Aaron.”
But his eyes said otherwise.
Aaron looked downside, trying to process the information inside his head. Jack was dead?! He was killed in a battle? Then, Aaron wouldn’t be able to....
“I won’t be able to take revenge on him, then?” Aaron said bitterly.
Vito raised his eyebrows. “That’s the next thing I want to talk to you about.”
Aaron gritted his teeth and waited.
“Jack might be dead now,” Vito said, twirling his sword on his hand. “But you know, he’s an angel and he can’t exactly die. So, he reincarnated.”
Aaron’s face brightened at once.
“But,” Vito continued again, making Aaron’s smile faltered a little bit at the word but, “he’s not here.”
“What? How...”
“He reincarnated as a human, and he lives on Earth now.”
“But...” Aaron started again.
“How could it possibly happen? I haven’t known it yet. But we have pretty good evidence.” Vito rose on his feet and walked to the darkest part of his room. Aaron followed him.
There, hanging on the wall, there was a mirror, like the one Aaron had in his room. But it didn’t seem like a regular mirror. There was some weird grey mist surrounding it, keeping Aaron from seeing his face there.
“What is it?” Aaron asked.
Vito didn’t answer, he just touched the surface of the mirror with his right index finger and whispered some incantations in ancient language that Aaron didn’t understand. But as he spoke, the mist slowly cleared, showing someone that exactly wasn’t Vito or Aaron. That person was dressed in jeans and white polo shirt. He had a round, childish face framed by short brown hair, brown eyes, and dimples on his cheeks when he smiled. He was....
“Jack?!” Aaron hissed.
Vito nodded.
Aaron could only stare at the image for a few minutes. Despite wearing colorful clothes and his wings weren’t there anymore, Jack’s appearance was still the same. Even his childish and innocent expression didn’t change at all.
“He’s in highschool now,” Vito said. “If you want to hunt him down, I’ll give you permission to enter human world and kill him. Whatever you want.”
Aaron blinked. “Wait,” he said slowly. “You said he’s in highschool?”
Vito nodded.
“That means he’s....” Aaron counted in his head, “probably around seventeen?”
“Yeah.”
“He died seventeen years ago, and you didn’t tell me at once?!”
“In case you don’t remember, Aaron, time here and time there aren’t exactly the same,” Vito explained patiently. “In our time, he died only a week ago. He reincarnated at once and spent seventeen happy years on Earth.”
“Which gonna end soon in my hand,” Aaron clenched his fist.
He didn’t notice the sly grin formed on Vito’s face.
