Palm Springs

This past weekend was the Product Department's trip to Palm Springs. We won department of the year at the Christmas Party and as such we got a two night stay as a group in the desert. The resort was lovely the dinners were lovely and there adventures but what struck me the most was this one 20 minute block of time in which I was simply blissful. I'm not one to use the word bliss often- in fact I'm not sure when the last time was that I used it but this brief moment in time was - to me- the definition of bliss.

I'm from the desert, most of you know this. The thing is I spend a lot of time bitching about the desert and thanking god and every other deity that I no longer live in the desert. There are moments, however, such as the post a few weeks ago where I mentioned driving in the Mojave Desert when I find myself very grateful to be in the desert. Last night at around 630 I found myself fresh from soaking in the tub and snuggled up in my fluffy Westin robe. Aaron was in the shower and had just put on some music before leaving the room so I grabbed a drink, a book and sat myself out on our balcony to watch the sunset and let the breeze dry my hair. I sat there for 20 minutes with my legs up on the railing, sipping my beer and staring out into the sky watching the colors change from the initial stunning palette of rich warm oranges and reds to the cooler but still warm lilacs and violets and finally into the cool blues of the desert night. There are lakes all around the property and ducks everywhere and I watched the wind swaying the palm fronds and listened to the ducks quack and the fountains rain down on the ponds and I just breathed. Just sat there and inhaled and exhaled very slowly and calmly and recognized and enjoyed the time for what it was. Bliss. A gift of pure bliss. I sat there trying out different words and descriptions for what I was seeing and experiencing. I rolled thoughts around in my mouth hoping to find the exact perfect way to describe it to others and I don't think in the end I have been successful but I did want to try and share it because it was beautiful:)

Sometimes the desert is the most beautiful place on earth.
