SPN Episode 4.19 "Jump The Shark" Review

Not going to lie...I got pleasantly buzzed before this episode. Just, you know, in case.

(adopts Sam's frowny face) I'm actually not too upset about that episode. I was geared up for the worst. But I think we got some good things out of it.

I CHEERED OUT LOUD when "Adam" turned out to be a monster. I thought that was genius. Obviously Kripke wanted to introduce the idea that John wasn't exclusive to his family, something I still find really uneccessary and cliche. And to be honest, I just don't handle the whole "unfaithful" thing well, whether its in a romantic or familial sense, so that wasn't the easiest thing in the world to process and watch Dean process. I'm...hm. I'm interested to hear KandKL's take on that.

But as much as I really hate that Kripke needed to do the third brother thing, I'm glad he did it this way. Now we know there was a third brother; more importantly, we know that John was randy and that he wasn't focused on family like he should have been (wow, my chest just completely tightened up again. Clearly I don't handle this subject well!). And yet, the brother is dead! We don't have to deal with him directly, ever! Just the idea of him. A+ for delivery, Kripke and team.

It's official: Sam is John, as we've been saying all along. It's good that Dean finally sees it. (Though I still, selfishly and foolishly, disagree with the whole "listened to the same music" thing, and will defend my opinion until I'm blue in the face.)

That kid that played Adam really turned it on when he went bad, huh? :) I kind of enjoyed him after that. Especially the way he talked and used his voice.

I think another telling thing is how much time Dean spent away from Sam, especially since most of that time was completely by choice and not because of splitting up for the sake of the case. These guys are forming separate identities away from each other; this was especially evident by the separation Dean placed between himself and Sam when he talked about Sam being the same as John. That separation is going to be big, I've got to believe, with the end of the season coming up soon. Sooner than I'd like to think...and yet I'm ready for it. Let's get this thing moving.

Dean looked awfully dapper with his long overcoat and tie. :) And I really appreciated the different music they used when Dean was tunneling through the moseleum.

Off to try to not be mad at John and anyone he might resemble in my life. Really. Going to do dishes instead. (nods resolutely...and gets out the beer, just, you know. in case)
