I was reading an article about Maria Sharapova's haircut (that sounds so lame, haha), and I was kind of horrified when I read that she has 7 million Facebook fans. Then I was even more horrified when I remembered that I am one of them. I don't even consider myself a "fan" of hers, but a while back I saw some of her posts and thought they were cute, so I decided to follow her. Anyway, her hair looks really good in the pictures and I kind of can't wait to see it in motion when she's not all glammed up. Edit: Oops, I guess Maria didn't actually cut her hair, she was just wearing a wig for the photo shoot. Her hair looks exactly the same. Points to her for fooling the internet.
It looks like Andy might have to fight John Isner over who is going to play mixed doubles with Serena at the Olympics. I am so jealous of Serena for having these problems. Oh yeah, two hot guys want to play doubles with me because we would be practically guaranteed to win a medal, just a typical day, la la la. Yes, that is how I imagine Serena thinks. The Olympic tennis rules are so weird that I'm not even sure why they added mixed, or how many mixed teams there can be from each country. I guess we will find out soon enough. I have a feeling that Serena will pick Andy just because she has known him longer, but of course that is assuming he is healthy. He had to pull out of mixed with her in Australia, and I know she was disappointed about that. On his radio show last week Andy said he would probably concentrate on mixed doubles over singles at the Olympics because playing with Serena would be his best chance to win a medal. But I think that was before he knew that John wants to play with her too...
Changing topics, I now visit a Backstreet Boys messageboard on a daily basis (I wish I was kidding about this). It is actually really interesting to join a fanbase as a new fan, because I feel like a have such a different perspective than people who have been fans for 15+ years. It seems like the majority of their fans are really delusional about what the group needs to do to be popular again. Fans will say if only they would choose better singles, or work with better producers, or make better videos, or do better promotion, etc, then the group will finally get the respect they deserve. And I can't really fault them for saying these things, because I said the same things about Hanson for years in this journal. I wrote about how Hanson needed to stop making such bad decisions and then people would finally see how talented they are. Now I realize how ridiculous this must have sounded, especially to people who are not Hanson fans. Hanson and the Backstreet Boys are similar in a lot of ways, and the truth is that neither of them will ever be really big again, but that is okay. They both have dedicated fanbases, so they can continue to make music and tour for as long as they want, and their fans will always be there. But the general public is never going to care about them again.
So now the Backstreet Boys are starting to record a new album, and apparently Kevin is joining them for it. He left the group in 2006 and I don't think they were completely honest about the real reasons he left, but I won't go into that. A lot of Backstreet fans seem to think that Kevin is some magical savior that will help the group return to their former glory, and it is just so laughable to me. Sure, boybands are making a comeback, but have you seen the new crop of boybands? For one thing, they are actually boys. They are not pushing 40, or balding, or married. That reminds me, I should write something in here about how cute One Direction is, but this is getting long enough as it is. Fans are speculating that Kevin is re-joining the group because 2013 will be their 20th anniversary (even though three of them joined the group in 1992 and they didn't become popular in the US until like 1998, but obviously these are just technicalities). Maybe it is because I have only been a fan for the past year, but I personally think that the group is stronger as a foursome. But for some reason five is the lucky number for boybands, and if I was a longtime fan I am sure I would be excited about them being reunited. I could ramble on about this a lot more, but I think I'll save it for another day, haha.
