So I went to Toronto last week to see Caligula. I left really late on Thursday night and came back in the middle of Saturday.
I forgot that round-trip, now that I'm in Cornwall, it's roughly a 8.5 hour trip, versus 2.5 hours.
I also neglected that I get disoriented with everything when I'm traveling that much. Which meant that I was less confident in my less-than-dependable sense of direction. I was also more nervous and twitchy than usual. But I looked great while doing it.
I did stay with friends I hadn't seen in a while, which is always nice, always unplanned. Thursday night gave me Spinal Tap (with commentary), weeeeeeeeeeed, a nice guest room, shower, and coffee. Friday night gave me an unfriendly couch, dinner made for me, and first folio text, although I did have to cook eggs in the morning to earn my keep. I've never eaten an egg, but I can cook them? Weird. Would you eat my eggs?
As for Caligula, I very much enjoyed it. I wish I'd known a bit more about the text before seeing it, being that French philosophers don't really write light. The titular actor was fantastic, and had the astonishing ability to sustain amazing amounts of action and anguish. My one friend that was in the show was dead fairly early on, but it was a fantastic death scene, especially considering its length.
I came back Saturday afternoon because I was given the impression that my cousin was going to be in town. I still haven't seen him. I did manage to screw up the wireless on my laptop though. Again. Which means I have to use the house PC. Which I hate.
While I was away, I also *finally* learned that my ONE REMAINING friend in Cornwall has moved to Ottawa. Along with *everyone* else. Which means that I should probably make new friends. Which I'm not too keen on doing. I don't even really like the ones I have now. Who are all very far away.
Uh...... solitude is good? For the soul? Or something?
