If I am going to limit the damage of my family eating at Burning Man, I know I NEED the help of Beth Terry of Fake Plastic Fish
rather badly...
http://fakeplasticfish.com/ She's promised to take me shopping in Oakland on August 28th. I hope we video tape it for a blog of sorts. She's my hero!
I just had a teary eyed experience yesterday trying to shop at my mother's local grocery store here in Halifax.
Two local items of produce, both in plastic.
Hotdogs individually wrapped in plastic. (I try not to feed these things to my children but my mother bought them!)
Bread baked on site in plastic.
Last year I could get bacon in paper - no more! (Bacon is the only meat I cook.)
So by the time I left, I was literally teary eyed.
I got a baguette in paper with a plastic window, a Canada cauliflower, a local cucumber in plastic, an organic tomato, salad dressing, balsamic vinegar and olive oil in glass, vege bouillon cubes in foil and vitamins in plastic, alas.
I must go find the local produce hut I found last year - open by chance!
