Dear Yuletide Author,
Thank you so much for writing a story for me! I am sure, if you share one of these four fandoms, that you are a person of superior intelligence and impeccable taste, and that I will absolutely love whatever you write.
I really don't care for dub-con or non-con (I am pro-enthusiastic consent!), or any kind of prejudice (sexism, racism, homophobia, sizism, transphobia, and so on!). Obviously sometimes characters believe these sorts of things, and that is fine, as long as the story itself treats the subject intelligently and doesn't support or validate the character's beliefs.
Aside from that, the rest of my preferences are really just preferences and I will be happy with anything you decide to write about any of the characters in any of these fandoms!
Generally speaking, I like both romance (slash, femmeslash, and het) and gen, humor and drama, AU and, uh, not-AU, pretty much any rating - basically, the style of the story doesn't matter nearly as much to me as the substance. I like stories that are about two things at once (think the plays Arcadia and Copenhagen and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, if you know them - math and life! physics and life! philosophy and theatre and life!). I like well-developed, believable characters and relationships. I love "strong female characters" - ones who, whether or not they can kick your ass, are well-rounded and aware of (or learning about) their strengths and weaknesses and out to change the world, in ways either small or big. I am fascinated by the power of myth and story - things that are true without necessarily being fact.
Caprica: I am epically sad about the cancellation of this show =( =(. I am totally nuts about Tamara and Zoe and Lacy and would love to hear more about them, either right after what we've seen or sometime in the future. Does Lacy's path cross Tamara and Zoe's sometime? What does it mean to grow up when you're computer code? What does the connecting tissue between Caprica and BSG look like, especially for the three of them? How do they influence it? If any of those feel interesting to you, go with it! If not, do something else!
History Boys: Well, obviously there aren't so many female characters here! Scripps is my favorite - anything about him would be delightful. But really anything about any of them is great - fleshing out some of the less developed boys, or what happens to Dakin or Posner or whoever in the future. Really, pretty much anything.
The Book Thief: Anything. No, really, anything. Anything about any other point in Liesel's life, or Max's life, or a missing scene from the book, or anything else Death ever does, related to these characters or not. I just want to spend more time in the universe.
The Poisonwood Bible: I would love more about Adah, after the book (either after the main events or after her epilogue). "We are the balance of our damage and our transgressions... Believe this: the mistakes are part of the story." Pretty much that, exactly - or, using that quote as the basis of the story, anything about any of them.
Once again, thank you so much, and I'm looking forward to reading what you write!
Lynette
