Attempting to predict the future of PoT

Nov 25, 2007 04:27

Now that I'm getting drawn back into the fandom (albeit more for character slash reasons than for storyline + sports action than before) I find myself increasing obsessing over thinking and speculating about what lies in the future for the characters.

Because these obsessions tend to occur when I'm procrastinating and never do when I'm close to 100% free, I reckon I should write these things down to get them out of my head so I can concentrate on other important things, like school.

In terms of "future", I suppose, one might argue that it's quite irrelevant, since they're not real, since the manga is supposed to have a narrow focus on tennis, tennis, and tennis (and the nationals, which is also about tennis), and more tennis.

Let's not forget the occasional DBZ reference and lots of Musashi-insipired bits (guy who wrote the Book of Five Rings). I mean, come on... Tsubame Gaeshi? Natural genius first discovered at 13? Character names like, Shishido, Yagyuu, etc.? Gaining enlightenment in (not kendo, but) tennis?

._.

Anyway, with regards to the future, sometimes it bothers me how they make it seem like Tennis for them is life and death. How many of them are actually going to pursue tennis later on, you know? I understand it's the premise of an "exciting sports manga", but seriously... it's troubling to think that the characters might be neglecting their studies for their tennis (although this might not be the case, but nothing's EVER mentioned of this side of their lives), that they have bad foresight to not really look beyond the nationals (only to find that it's rather anti-climatic), to actually be injuring their elbows, wrists, backs, etc. all for the pursuit of tennis in junior high (._.;), and so on and so forth.

Now, there is nothing wrong with having steadfastness, or a sense of determination to win, some pride, and so on. I guess the manga kinda feels like it lacks the humanistic bit. I mean, SLAM DUNK was pretty damned perfect (imho and other peoples' ho - rofl @ ho). There was the Mitsui thing, the history of Sakuragi, his love affairs, Rukawa' determination to go abroad, Miyagi's crush, and so on and so forth. It was more REAL. You could clearly see who was going to go pro, who had serious intentions to, and AFTER the championships, life went on. They had PLANS before, and after they won. Mitsui even couldn't leave after he graduated! (hahaha) And the main character doesn't ALWAYS win at EVERYTHING.

Somehow, this logic, realism, and humanism seem lacking in Prince of Tennis.

The characters talk about dreams of the nationals, about tennis, playing together "forever", and some talk about going pro overseas... How many of them will? Are they just going to lead to an anti-climatic end after a win at the nationals? What's going to happen to the second years? (Kaidoh for BUCHOU!) What about THEIR national championship? And then them in Senior High?? Will the regulars of now be ball-gophers? And how "strong" are their seniors at that level?

They already have the "chi" and all that nonsense, as opposed to how normal things seemed at the beginning of the series. What next at the senior high level? Or wimbledon?

...DBZx100 ATTACK? Bleach-type tennis? (BANKAI!!)

No, maybe EVANGELION-style.

With angels and mecha and all that awesomeness.

...I kinda really want to find out! (or maybe I don't... because it'll be really lame)

Can you imagine?

Tennis rackets that.... morph because of the angel-tennis-players' ability to transmit their chi into them, instantaneously repelling tennis balls at supersonic speed that rivals the already supersonic "waterfall" and "Neo Scud"... YOU CAN'T SEE IT COMING AND IT'LL CHOP YOUR HEAD OFF -- that is, until you realise your head being chopped off was an ILLUSION, because THE WORLD IS AN ILLUSION.

OH look, ENLIGHTENMENT through tennis. The meaning of life is understood

Konomi will likely make it end after this championship thingy though (._. )

Pahtooey.

Anyway, similarly, I want to know if GP will go pro, and what after that? The story is already set too early (them being at 13-16 yrs... wtf) so it'll be a long ways away. Alot of things could happen!

If Oishi will pursue a Medical degree (going from the assumption that a guy from a family with MDs might want to follow a similar profession), can he still have time for tennis? (I can kinda sense that he might, and spread himself too thin at the same time). What will Kikumaru do on the side? I really wonder.

I hate saying this, but Kikumaru -- it's hard to picture him doing any kind of fixed job. Will he be one of those arubaito-types and play tennis as part of the GP?

...what after they retire?

As for Kawamura - it's been decided that he'll continue Kawamura Sushi ;) That's ONE certainty!

And it also doesn't seem logical that a guy like Tezuka, coming from such a straight-laced family would want to go abroad to pursue tennis.

No, like, really. It doesn't quite add up that he be the rebellious type. And in Japan, responsibility traditionally comes before selfish desires. And his family. while his dad seems a bit like the relaxed, kinda laid-back shabby type, his granpa, whom he supposedly takes after, was/is a part of Japan's Police force...

Oh, and also what's going to happen to Momo? If you ask me, he looks like the sports jock-turned-salaryman type, lol!!

Fuji... meh. I dunno.

Ryoma, needless to say, he's a Tennis fanatic. He'll likely play Tennis until he gets a bad back (which is extremely common).

Maybe similarly for Kaidoh. But maybe not if Inui can help it, rofl.

Okay... sorry. Side-stepped from being quite "factual" here.

Inui will likely be best as a personal trainer for pro athletes :) Unless he decides to go megane-less and wear contacts in Senior High. *giggles* After all, he is the nerdy bishounen who hides behind glasses. And people change ;)

(...Kaidoh is in for a surprise when he graduates XDDD)

For others, like in Fudoumine, while some might go pro, it seems like they'll move on and become "regular people" in society. Ibu looks most like the salaryman type, I think... totally cute, hehe.

As for Hyoutei!

I really, really can't help but wonder where Atobe's family gets their wealth o_O Could it be old money? His dad doesn't seem to have a job that's naturally associated with the BIG bucks. Anyways, that aside, from appearances alone, I see Atobe as a young CEO or VP of sorts, wit Kabaji as his secretary.

XDDD

Hiyoshi will likely follow his father's footsteps (or rather, gekkokujyou his father  ._. ) and be a Master or something.

Mukahi... that one stumps me.

Oshitari - rofl. I somehow don't want to speculate!

Shishido and Ohtori? Hoooo boy. See, I really, really, reaaaaally wish I could come up with something where their lives will still be intertwined come the future.

Shishido though, looks like a salaryman type. But looking at his interests, he might even be a teacher :P I definitely see him playing tennis on the side though (with Chouta *ahem* and amongst other things *wishful thinking*)

Choutarou... I dunno, I see him as a salaryman too, but maybe more like a manager or... hmm. Somehow, the image of him being a teacher in elementary is quite suitable.

Shishido and Choutarou can find themselves working at the same school... *inward gasp* The image is somehow so perfect.

Is this the by-product of too much doujinshi?!?! D:

Someone tell me it's likely~~~~!!!!

Gosh, I'm such a rabid fangirl.

I really wonder what other people think about this... you know, besides the Choutarou being the housewife and Shishido going to work bit. Like, I mean, in a realistic sense - what do they think logically makes sense as a likely future for the characters?

Bane and Dabide: hahaha... wow, I'd really like to know where these two end up.

Also Koharu and Yuu-chan.

And the rest, of course.

You know, who becomes pro, who doesn't *ponders, ponders*

In the less distant future though, I DEFINITELY (and I cannot stress this enough) see Kaidoh as buchou XD

Think about it!

Captain: Tezuka: more "fierce" and "tough". Stoic, silent, solidly reliable type.
(compare with: Kaidoh: "fierce", "tough", determined. Silent and solidly reliable)
Vice-Captain: Oishi: gentler, worrier, people-oriented, dedicated. supportively reliable type.
(compare with: Momo: gentler, more personable, happy-go-lucky, determined. Supportively reliable.)

Ha-haa :D It matches up to me!

Although... in HebiGara, I kinda have to think twice about that. Well, it was a spoof and crack and whatnot, but still :P

I kinda wonder about the future of the teams once the third-years have moved on. There's only Kirihara as a 2nd year that's a regular - does that mean the rest aren't as good?

Will they all go to sh*t?

Like in Seigaku... Is Arai good enough to match up to Kaidoh and Momo's level when Ryoma first came to Seigaku??

What about Horio with his... three years' tennis experience?

@_@

Speaking of the current first years... we don't see them shooting up like beansprouts like Momo, Kaidoh, Tezuka, Fuji, Inui, Oishi, Taka, and Eiji apparently did in their first year, going on second!
(and I wanna see how Katsuo and Kachiro look like at seemingly 19, like incidentally how all the other 2nd and 3rd years do!)

PoT is so ILLOGICAL.

We need an Inui-brain for this one. Or not, since bowling stumps the genius in him too.

Maybe logic also stumps Konomi.
