Day One: A show that should never have been canceled
Pushing Daisies!
This show had me from hello, or at least the first five minutes. This show knew who it was from the very first episode. All the actors are top notch, from Lee Pace to Anna Friel to Chi McBride and the ever-lovely Kristin Chenoweth. And the Aunts, Lily and Vivian, played by Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Green are always fabulous.
I love everything about this show, from the (admittedly black) humor, to the fantastic production design, the imaginative costumes, to the sappy romance. I could probably watch Lee Pace and Anne Friel grinning at each other like idiots all day long.
This show was creative and incredibly quirky and the dialogue went off at a million miles an hour with blink and you miss 'em jokes that make rewatching a joy. I think it was hurt a lot by the writer's strike since it never really got the chance to develop a following and it wasn't well promoted as far as I could tell. Just like Firefly, I think these off-the-beaten-trail shows are really hard for mainstream advertising to promote effectively.
Two seasons are available on DVD but wow do I wish there was more. I guess we'll just have to be satisfied with the comic books that have been promised.
