"Real education takes risks. You have to be able to challenge what you are told but you also need to challenge what you believe. The person that thinks they know everything they need to know deserves to be stepped on, stepped over, or marginalized by those that find use of any and all education. Knowledge is power, true but it is only the beginning. Many people may be privy to the same knowledge but will not all use it the same way. Those that have a greater appreciation of the interrelation between general knowledge and specific knowledge will outsmart you the majority of the time. Criticizing the baker because you don’t appreciate his use of cinnamon is valid if you have some knowledge of baking, but he will most likely ask you to step aside for all the customers in line to buy his delicious goods. He may or may not have a degree but he’s learned what his customers like and how to give it to them. For the baker that’s the best education he could hope for, whether he learned it at the knee of a great baker or paid an instructor at a culinary school. Can you say the same about whatever field you are in now?"
