Everyone asks me what's up, and that's all I can think of to tell them. And they ask me how I am, and I grin and say, "Really good." This is a puzzling answer for a UChicago student, even if it is finally spring out. Nobody says they're "really good."
At the party Friday night for Andy's birthday, everyone thought I was way drunker than I was just because I was so thrilled. Lots of people said congratulations too. That was nice.
Today, I got a little more freaked out as Jamil and I were interviewed by our school newspaper. We managed never to provoke a campus debate on the subject, so I'm a little nervous to see what happens after this decision is made public. But it's not like our admin is going to go, "Oh, oops," and change their minds. It would be very uncharacteristic, so I think it's okay.
Um, I guess I have other news:
-Met (or, rather, kissed) the biggest player ever Friday night. He like fit the definition of "player." It was impressive.
-Saw Dara, my supervisor from last summer, at a Jewish social justice conference. It was kind of nice to be attending a conference but not feeling exhausted or worried about the behind-the-scences intrigue. Was also good to see Dara. One of these days, I'm going to make her have a long conversation with me about what to do with my life.
-Have now been downtown two weekends in a row. I think this is a record for me in Chicago. The nice weather certainly helps the travel.
-Was inspired enough to do homework last night, but not tonight. Learned about the Chicago Area 2 torture cases, where a white guy who served in Vietnam brought back the electroshock techniques he learned there to abuse over 100 black men in the course of 10 years. He was fired, but is living on a nice pension in Florida. Sasha, my roommate, doesn't understand why I would take a course on torture, and keeps whimpering every time I mention it. I told her learning about it is essential to stopping it. She said that's why I'm going to save the world and not her. I think I was supposed to be flattered at that response, but mostly I was pissed off.
-Talked to Lutful! Twice! In two nights! Yay!
-Today is my half-birthday, which means that in 18 months, I will be 21.
