I'm procrastinating on sleep, as usual, but unfortunately, I have to get up at 6:15 this time. My flight's at 10:20. Thinking about it, I'm not entirely sure why I have to get up a full 4 hours before my plane takes off, but my parents are usually right in these matters, so I'll go with it. I think I'm just trying to procrastinate leaving.
New Year's Eve was certainly more eventful than usual, but I'm not sure if it was less disappointing/anti-climatic. Large quantities of champagne at Su's house, followed by insane amounts of giggling, several drunk dials, sad news that Lutful's leaving in May, and badly communicated midnight kissing. Was in a bad mood by the time I got on the train to get to the East Village, but walking up First Avenue, with crowds of drunken New Yorkers wishing us Happy New Year cheered me up. Partying at Theater for a New City (same place as dyke ball, for those keeping track) was completely ridiculous--lots of people older than us in fabulous New Year's costumes, latino-klezmer music, only one person I knew and not well enough to say hi to, and a Latvian mathematician in a band who hit on us. My mood was much improved, but then the failure to get a cab, the wait for a train by myself on a super-crowded platform full of drunks, running into Libby and Melina in a very weird state, the 4 AM hangover, and the losing of my keys were all downers. And yet, as Rachel pointed out, it was a great way to spend my last night out in New York.
Tonight was Emma's early birthday party. Happy Early Birthday Emma! It was a nice way to see everyone one last time, though I did have to spend too much of the night avoiding the boys' conversation. Emma has too many annoying guy friends, I think. They can be okay on an individual level, but in a big group, it's all too overwhelming. And, honestly, I was rather offended by a lot of what Roland said. (Sorry, I named names. Oh well. He was offensive.)
And now, I need to sleep, if I'm going to be functional tomorrow. I hate my school schedule. I don't understand why going back is so fucking hard each winter, but it really really is. Just as I'm getting settled in, I have to go back. I'll miss everyone much.
