I had a great day at the Poetryfest. I met a bunch of really awesome people, including a group of pretty hot girls -- who, even better, happen to prefer girls! ^_^* Hopefully I'll be seeing a bit more of them because they seem like a fun bunch.
I also had fun talking to the crowd. Now, I've never claimed to be a poet. I love to write, but I'm just not very good at the precision it takes to write poetry. I was pretty nervous about having to read half-cocked "poems" I wrote two hours before attending the damn event. BUUUUUUT... as much as I'm *not* good at writing poems, I *am* good at conveying the passion of my ideals, and I think that came across. I was happy for the chance to share my ideals and dreams with other people--and to pimp ME-3 a bit. ^_^*
Thanks so much to Greg for coming out with me and being supportive and sharing some of his own poetry! It made me a lot less nervous knowing I wouldn't be the ONLY person I knew up there speaking! And thanks to Amber and Shane for showing their support by coming out. It really meant a lot. Also, Keith surprised me by showing up, too! Unfortunately, he missed my reading, but he traded shifts and missed a valuable work-night just to come support me, so I appreciate it never-the-less. I'll admit that I was orginally feeling a bit duped that John ditched at the last second, Scott couldn't attend, and even Keith wasn't going to make it... but in the end it seemed all for the best because if they'd been there I probably wouldn't have made as much effort to socialize, and thus wouldn't have met such cool people.
Also, we won a million prizes. I got over $50 worth of gift certificates for food, which I SORELY need 'cause I'm broke. Plus I got a certificate for a free half-hour massage (I've never gotten a massage before!) and a little poetry book and a T-shirt. Greg got a journal, though, so I envy him 'cause I REALLY wanted a journal, but I think I need the food more. >_<;
Thanks so much everyone! It was a great day!
