Konbanwa, minnasan, I hope everyone out there in Cyberland is doing well this evening! It was a lovely day off for me today. I managed to finish all my laundry, got to go out to lunch with my 'rents and still found time to play the piano. (I do this at my own leisure, I'm not actually trained in playing, my older brother and other are.)
And of course, the BIG news. I just said goodbye to a very large sum of money this evening and made the purchase of my newest ball-jointed doll. For those of you who don't know, I come from a long line of doll collectors, my late grandmother having the second largest doll museum in South Dakota. Alas, we lost the museum when my grandparents house burned down in a fire about four years ago. My 'rents now live in the new house and are not avid doll collectors. I am very much though.
However, I never have collected "normal" dolls. Most of mine have a bit of a weird edge or as my mother some times calls them, "Creepy Cute." I like obscure pieces and kind of random styles. I have been a long time fan of ball jointers, seeing my first one in a doll magazine back about six or seven years ago. They were really hard to come by then because most of the Japanese and Korean sites didn't have an English page and the occassional doll you would find on Ebay was pretty much out of reach. (Most twenty-somethings don't have nearly 2 grand at the time they can just toss away.)
So after much research this year, price comparison and using a little of the money that my late grandfather willed to me, I finally decided to make a purchase from LeekeWorld, a Korean company that I found to have the most variety and style. I have a fondness for male dolls because they have always seemed more versatile than the girls.
So I settled upon the "Lionel" set. You can visit his gallery following this
Link. The reason that I picked him? I'm sure most of you have already guessed it. Yup, it's the facial hair. Where most BJD collectors perfer their boyz to be adrongynous, I wanted there to be no doubt that my BJD was male. I even went the extra step to have his whole body painted to resemble muscle structure and skin shading. My Lionel won't have black hair though, he's going to instead have a mop of long Goldenrod hair similiar to the Lionel in my original story. In fact, this BJD inspired the original piece.
Anyhoo, I am done rambling for a bit about this particular hobby of mine. He'll be arriving in 30-45 days from South Korea. It will give me just enough time to build him a coffin for him to live in. (Seriously, I am actually building him a coffin, he kinda' looked vampire-ish to me minus the wimpy "sparkles.")
Until next time, minnasan, ja ne for now! =~.^=V
