the things you learn

I wish I had more time to post, but I feel like it's an appropriate time to update my journal anyway. School is back in full swing. My course load this semester is comprised of comparative vertebrate anatomy, ethnobotany, evolutionary biology, and world civilizations II.

Kristen is learning french. I put "My French Coach" on the DS and she's recording herself right now. It's so cute. That accent is so hard to get right, too. It's like fighting a head cold while trying to speak spanish.

Remember how in middle school they told you that everyone thought the world was flat during Columbus' time? The modern world gained much of its knowledge from the Ancient Greeks, and if you look back to Greek mythology, it's obvious they knew the world was round. I mean, think about Atlas carrying the world on his back. He's not carrying a pizza-shaped earth.

Which brings me to comparative vertebrate anatomy. Did you know your first cervical vertebra is called the atlas? that's because it holds your head up. Did you also know that the skin of cassava plants contains a carcinogenic glycoside?

That's just a bit of trivia I've gleamed from my classes. I've got a dissection tomorrow. My classes are really interesting, but the volume of information I need to memorize is purely exhausting.
