Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7
Yesung had told Yunho how evil war can be. He always told Yunho his own experiences every time he got back from one. Yunho never went into one, but for some reasons he couldn’t grasps, he always feels calm whenever Yesung is back. Yes, he could see Yesung’s tired face, frustrated eyes and the smell of blood tainting his black cloak. Sometimes he could see human blood in his face, in his sword, but he always said “A war always shed some bloods”. Yesung always shoves his bloody sword and cloak to Yunho, forced him to smell the blood so he will get used to it.
Sometimes when the soldiers come back with hostages of war, Yesung will take Yunho to see them being interrogated, tortured and even executed. At the first time, Yunho couldn’t sleep. The horror was too much, made him nauseous and also made him a little scared of his teacher. Yesung always has an indifferent mask at every torturing and execution sessions, but could smile calmly at days. When Yunho asked him how he could do that, Yesung simply answer him with “I wasn’t at first. Don’t worry. You’ll get used to it and you have to”. So Yunho forced himself to do so. He knew he have to be strong, he will be a soldier one day and promised himself he will be a great one to make his teacher proud.
Despite all of that, Yunho couldn’t help trembles every time he’s involved in a real war. When their troops reached the war ground as reinforcement, Yesung had left with the first troops, he couldn’t help feeling nauseous and scared. So many dead bodies laid on the ground, some who are still alive, barely, whimper in pain, smell of smoke, burnt meat and blood permeated in the air. The captain knows despite his strength, this is Yunho’s first time so he encourages Yunho and instructing him what he has to do.
When Yunho caught sight of Yesung, he is feeling scared and admiring his teacher at the same time. Moving so fast like a wind, the half-vampire’s slashing his sword around, killing the opponents in an instant. Yunho tries his best to caught up in the fight and so far he had done good. When the first soldier he had killed collapsed to the ground, he was too shocked at the fact he just killed a man and almost got killed too, had Yesung not quickly came to his aid. The half-vampire scolded his apprentice for being so careless and despite feeling a bit guilty to yell at the young soldier, Yesung immediately ordered him to fight again because if he doesn’t, he’ll end up as the man-eater creatures’ dinner.
The war took longer time than they had predicted. Since it’s almost the end of autumn now, dark comes earlier and they had to seize the soldier back before they kill each other friends. Yunho kinda wishes Yesung will come to him to talk and perhaps gives him some comfort or advices, but he is not. Yesung, as the senior soldier and one of the leaders here, barely come except for checking wounds. As much as Yunho feels hurt with the treatment, he knows Yesung only tried to tell him that he is a soldier now, that he is equal to other soldiers and as a leader he shouldn’t spoil his own apprentice above the others.
Six months had passed when finally the war ended. SM kingdom almost defeated and in Yunho’s own mind, it will be defeated if they don’t have Yesung in their troops. A half-vampire is far stronger than a human after all. When they are helping some wounded soldiers, tired and battered yet very glad the war has ended and they are on the winning side, some even manage to laugh and telling jokes for reassurance. Yunho himself, though thankful he is alive as well some of his friends, couldn’t do that in respect to the death soldiers. However, he is too preoccupied with his own mind….
A scream Yesung knows very well erupted.
YUNHO!!!
Wasting no time, he flies as fast as he could to the source and found some soldiers kneeling around him, some of them crying. They are parting, though some still hugging Yunho, when Yesung arrived. There is the sight Yesung had wished he won’t ever see in this war.
Yunho, with a sword in his chest, blood all over his body. Yunho’s own blood. His face’s pale and his breath ragged.
“No…Yunho!! YUNHO!!” Yesung couldn’t collect his calm nature now, seeing Yunho like that. “YUNHO!!!”
Yunho coughs blood a few times and opens his eyes slightly before closing them again. Yesung checks his pulse and breath in fear, silently thank the Deities it’s still there though very weak. He immediately orders everyone around to hurry and take care of every single wounded soldier so they could be saved. All of a sudden he feels a killing intent so strong somewhere near.
Carefully leaving Yunho to his friends, he went toward the source of it, determined to wipe out whatever things that could danger his troops’ lives any moment. But not far from Yunho’s place, he only sees Jay.
“Jay-ah! What are you doing here? Did Master Hwanhee ask you to help us?”
But Jay keep silent, only staring at Yesung with unreadable look. Then Yesung sees Jay is not alone, someone covered in black robe standing behind Jay. Yesung’s eyes widen, realizes the mysterious figure is a dark wizard, a wizard who chose the path of evil. A wizard who sold his soul to the dark side….
Yesung suddenly feeling pain surges through his body. As his body goes limp, he starts to loose conciousness…..only to see Jay gives an evil smirk at him and the yelling voices of his own soldiers.
Prince Kangta hugs a crying prince Kangin tightly, trying his best not to shed any tears. He needs to be strong for his brother, for his parents who are weeping in agony. Kangta couldn’t believe what he is seeing, his hands trembling both in anger and sadness.
There, among the wounded soldiers, laid Yunho’s body, still alive yet very weak, his skin so pale. Right beside him is Yesung, his breathing irregular and sometimes whimpering in pain. The royal physicians said Yunho’s too weak and won’t survive, they already tried their best but with his wound he’ll only live one more week or so. About Yesung though, the physicians couldn’t do anything since he is wounded by magic and a poisonous one so no human could help him. They said he is lucky born as half-vampire, else he would be dead by now.
Too much consumed in his emotions of loosing two people he considered as older brothers, Kangta run away from the castle, stealing a horse and off to the Wizarding Grotto. No one could save both of them except Great Sage Hwanhee and Lady Rella. Even if they couldn’t, they have every right to know.
