Kibum likens Donghae to a doll; a pretty doll. Donghae is pretty to look at, but requires a lot of work to maintain. Kibum is used to handling Donghae's moodswings, and he has mastered keeping Donghae in happy mood most of the time. (the secret is lots of candy and compliments and kisses, as well as agreeing to everything he says, regardless of whether he made sense, which most of the time, he didn't.) Donghae in happy mood was the best. His pretty face would feature a smile always and he laughed melodiously constantly. Kibum clings onto Donghae, the same way a young child clings onto her doll for support. Donghae is Kibum's doll. Kibum needs Donghae to feel safe, to feel complete.
Kibum thinks of their love like fireworks- brief but exciting. He was the happiest he'd ever been when they were together. Donghae brings out the wildness in quiet, sensible Kibum that Kibum never knew existed. It's a whirlwind of fun everytime he goes out with Donghae.
Now Kibum wishes he never made the connection, because every time he sees a doll or watches a firework display, he's reminded that Donghae is no longer his, and he hurts, hurts so much he sometimes feels like he can't breathe, and his feet give out. Crumpled on the floor, he curses himself yet again for letting Donghae go, because its the worst mistake of his life..
