So...after a week-long shut-down, the computer coughed, sputtered, and actually turned on without immediately freezing. I have the fucking INTERNET that I keep paying bills for. Amazing. Thought I'd post here, since this semi-miraculous sign of life will be followed by yet another week of complete internet blackout.
I need a cute little laptop. Preferably before I get shipped out to Minnesota mid-June. Gah.
Let's see...the weather here is nice! Hooray. I may have found a sublet for June/July, but no kitties. =( I'm a bad pet owner. BF was originally going to stay at my place while I'm gone and watch her-- this is a better solution than it seems, because although he doesn't really understand why she's the little fuzzy light of my life, and she doesn't understand dander allergies and is constantly miffed by his avoidance of all cuddling and head-butting (Gwen's highest expression of love), she does seem to feel comfortable with him and he would take very good care of her. However, he's decided to go to a friend's wedding and hang out in Chicago for two weeks and will be out of town. He very, very generously offered to take her with him instead, but in a lot of ways this is not an ideal solution. She will probably have to go to California with me in August anyway, but I don't want to drag her around on planes all summer, since she's spent very little time outside my apartment, although she has been on the subway, in a cab, on the Long Island ferry, and slept very cutely through an outdoor performance of Othello back when she was a brave young kitten. It was the FDNY bursting into the apartment that made her scared of the outside world....
Anyway, I'm almost done with teaching and learnin'....German final Wednesday, halfway through grading a huge stack of students' essays, meeting with advisor next weekish to discuss work that I haven't done. But BF will be out of town, giving me lots of uninterrupted time to come up with something to say about a topic that I've covered, oh, about a million times already. shoot me. shoot me now.
The most exciting news is really that BF is done with all the consequential things he has to do this semester, and has done very well, so that vacant, stressed-out look is slowly vanishing, and I exist again. It's really very nice. I can't stress how much better this summer will be if this continues. Plus, the weather's nice, so I'm not a little depressed heap of the aptly-named SAD. And the fact that I don't have to wander around in 20 layers of wool all the time gives me an excuse to go to the gym to tone up my arms. Which produces endorphins. Which also make me happy. AND THE TRADER JOE'S IS OPEN! AND THE TJ WINE STORE! Happiness is frozen artichoke hearts for 2 bucks a bag and two-buck Chuck (well, it's three bucks here, and they haven't gotten the shiraz in yet, but the TJ label spanish blends are quite nice for now) Many sources of happiness, all converging. =) Mmm...summer...delicious.
