Well, I'm back. From hell.

Every year at this time I spend a week with my elderly mother, who lives in Phoenix, Arizona. It was at least 110 every day I was there (43 Celsius), and the monsoon season had just started, so humid as well. Mother loves it, though; we had lunch outside one day. Only when I was mopping sweat from my eyelids did I finally beg to go back inside. "I thought it was very pleasant," Mother kept saying. Not even in the shade with misters did I find it pleasant.

(I'm sorry zoniduck and o4fuxache, but Phoenix -- ack. I'm glad you love it there, but I can never wait to leave.)

We saw two movies, The Devil Wears Prada, which is a beautifully-polished cliche, and The Lake House, which both of us really liked, though Mother said if anyone asked her what it was about she'd have to admit that she didn't know. Definitely worth a rental, though, and we both liked its soundtrack.

I spent most of my time not visiting with her reading and writing, so there are reviews of three of the books I read over at mira_reads, here. I also finished another SGA story, now out to beta, though with this one I haven't a clue if it will ever be post-able. Still, I enjoyed the research for it.

I got to spend an evening with my dear non-LJ friend Linda; we talked fandom for hours and now I'm reading old Highlander and SG1 stories because of her. I still love her, though.

Finally, welcome home ciderpress. Only the best to you, dear one.

Oh! One last thing: Mother gave me a picture of myself when I was about four, taken on the beach at Santa Monica (where I was born). With no further ado, here's little me:
