Hello! We are having beautiful weather these days -- highs in the upper 60s/15s and lower 70s/20s, and the sky has been incredibly blue. This part of the world often has shitty air quality but lately it's been clear as the proverbial bell. I like to sit out back and stare up into the blue, blue sky.
I am happy to report that I finally found a company to fix the leaking auto-filler to the pool. I'm still filling it manually, which freaks me out; I'm so afraid I will forget to set a timer and overflow the dang thing. Of course, they can't come out until mid January, and who the hell knows how much it will cost to repair, so . . . Well, one thing at a time.
Two days ago my cousin surprised me with a visit! She lives close to where Mother used to live, so not that far away, but she's more involved with her husband's family than with her own. However, I really like her and was so happy to see her. She's a pianist and is playing for a group doing Christmas and religious concerts and they gave one in our retirement community. I did not go because I'm surrounded by idiots who do not wear masks, and who knows if they believe in vaccines. My cousin said she didn't think she saw a single mask in the audience, and of course the singers aren't masks. Fortunately the piano is at the back, she is fully vaccinated and boosted, and wears a mask.
She wore one here and we mostly sat in the back to visit. It felt safe and really wonderful -- so nice to talk to someone! We're hoping we can do a family Zoom meeting over Christmas, the same group that last got together in Palm Springs literally days before California shut down. Fingers crossed.
Speaking of the idiots around me, my husband sent me this link:
Hospital crowding in Arizona reaches pandemic high. What can I say. We stay home, we wear masks, and hope for the best.
I'm sure you heard about the CEO of Kellogg's who wants to fire, what, 1400 employees because they want a bit more salary and better treatment? We usually eat Kellogg's bran cereal but luckily many other companies make the same. Fuck them.
I had a cooking day today. I made chicken paprikash and a loaf of cinnamon-raisin bread:
Mmmm. I sliced it and then put most of it in the freezer so I can just pull out one slice at a time. I also fed the sourdough, of course. My sister has gotten into the sourdough bread frenzy! I'm so pleased. If only we lived near enough to share recipes. At least we can send photos.
And that's been how I spend my time! Sometimes I just sit and watch the lights on the Christmas tree; that's almost meditative. I hope you are all well and taking care of yourselves.
