1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?

This is tough as well, especially since half of my books are still stored at my parents' house due to lack of room. Still, it is probably "The Little Prince" because it was my mom's before me. I took it from her and gave her an awesome new version (she probably wants her original back though which is from the 60s I believe). A book that was originally mine and has been with me the longest is probably "The Secret Garden" which I still love but haven't reread since the third or fourth grade.

2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?

Current: The Stand, by Stephen King
Last: The Slave Ship: A Human History, by M. Rediker (yeah..for class, but awesome book!)
Next: well, technically a bunch of articles for class. For fun: Mansfield Park, Jane Austen

3. What book did everyone like and you hated?

Well, I got tired of Fellowship of the Ring after 9 chapters. I promise to try it again someday. Also, I'm not a fan of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, though I respect

4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?

Um...possibly the LOTR series...I know, I know...
Other than that, I'm not sure: something that I've owned for a long time already but have never read?

5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?”

I'm with Annie: everything I already own. I like to reread.

6. Last page: read it first or wait til the end?

I like to be kept in suspense, so I don't read the end...pretty much ever.

7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?

Meh...doesn't bother me either way (I apparently like the word "meh" these days)

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

To quote Annie: I can pick only ONE?!!!! Yeah...um...I guess Meggie in Inkheart. Perhaps, to be generic, Jane in Jane Eyre...though actually probably Agnes in Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte (she's tough as nails though a bit overly religious). Also...Surreal from Anne Bishop's books..I heart her!

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?

There really are a lot of them! The Little Prince reminds me of my mom, since its her book. Jane Eyre reminds me why I love literature (and my first read of it during the summer between 6 and 7th grade). Titus Andronicus reminds me of London, The Globe, and Hannah. Anything Anne Bishop reminds me of Truman and Annie who made me read her in the first place! Briar Rose by Jane Yolen reminds me of my Grandma...because it takes place in Poland...I could go on and on!

10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.

For my Master's graduation at Truman, Dr. Delmonico gave me a 1916 edition of "Fruit Gathering" by Rabindranath Tagore, a Bengali poet. Its the original English translation I think. Beautiful poetry! She's given me 3 books now and an awesome, old crazy quilt (wedding gift). God, I love that woman! (by the way, her new granddaughter's name is Meredith!). There are perhaps more interesting stories but...thats the one that sticks out!

11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?

No, but that's how I acquired all the book from Delmonico...she gave them away to me...so I should perhaps pass it on.

12. Which book has been with you to the most places?

Probably Jane Eyre, just because I love it, though I usually carry whatever I'm reading with me wherever I go.

13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?

Um...I don't know. I too, as the English geek, enjoyed almost everything I read in high school. I didn't really like To Kill a Mockingbird...only because I read it about 4 times between middle and high school. I might have to think more about this one!

14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?

Um, notes on post its and a phone number for someone...weird area code so I didn't call it.

15. Used or brand new?

Both. I like nice old used books to collect (like my Fruit Gathering) and poetry...like Annie. Still, I usually buy new since I don't know any good used bookstores nearby. I really LOVE old books, especially classics.

16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?

I enjoyed On Writing and I am like The Stand right now, so I say genius, or close to. He is a good writer.

17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?

Contact....LONG book, okay movie.

18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?

Okay, so Eragon..duh, and many others that I will add to later when I have time

19. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?

Neil Gaiman, like Annie....always trust the Gaiman!
