It's been circulating for a while, but now it was a tiny bit difficult to judge, whether it's the real thing or not. 4 (according to other sources: 2) men handed in a petition to make Jewry the 14th national minority in Hungary. Now that's interesting, since there are multiple definitions and approaches to the idea of Jew/Jewish/Judaism and not all of them are fully comaptible with this concept. On the contrary. Some arguments:
- Jewry has been an integrant part of Hungarian society in the past 100+ years, given the political and social rights to their fullest.
- It's way too bold, the minority government/council would get unwanted attention, but one just has to stay shy and has to hide to avoid Anti-Semites.
- It is actually made by right-wing extremists, the worst Anti-Semites of this country, beware of the danger!
- In case the petition succeeded the new minority government would balance the power of Mazsihisz (Alliance of the Jewish Communities of Hungary) in an unhealthy way, dividing sources and publicity.
- The whole thing was made by the rebellious Chabad shluchim, so...
- A few would get money and power again but wouldn't do anything for the others.
- It's a good thing, since it could prevent spreading Anti-Semitism or even fight it effectively hand in hand with the communes.
- They'd like to lessen assimilation!
- They'd provide a new definition and an organization for non-religious Jews as well.
- They plan to revive Yiddish and it's culture, that's something.
It's an interesting issue, to say the least. I still don't know what to think about it precisely, so I'll consult with my LOR ASAP.
Okay, just kidding. I'd like to know more than the popular (and sometimes populist) pros and cons, meet the organizers' ideas, discuss them. But it seems to be too obscure. For weeks I couldn't figure out who the hell they are and where they're from.
Misuteri.
