the king was meh! sorry, and kdramas i won't be watching

Pretty much my reaction to the first episode of The King (I refuse to call it The King2Hearts because that's just silly and stupid) was mmm...kay. I shall watch the second episode when I get home to see if a second impression will make the difference, because otherwise I found it... boring.

I do agree that Lee Seung-gi and Ha Ji-won have volatile chemistry despite the age difference. I bow before their imminent OTP-ness.

I don't know why the first episode did nothing for me. Everyone else seemed to find it darkly funny and interesting. I agree about the darkly funny part. It failed to make me laugh, but there's something inherently funny about Hang-ah's desperation to get married still maintaining her North Korean soldier's pride. Lee Seung-gi sort of annoyed me. He IS hot in this show, I cannot deny that, but Lee Jae-ha's childish prince attitude sort of grated at me.

HOWEVER, like I said, he and HJW have undeniable chemistry. I haven't read recaps of the second episode, but if he acts all manly and ceases to annoy me, the show might just turn around.

My main problem with the first episode was that there seemed to be a lot of jokes I didn't get. Maybe black comedy isn't for me. History of the Salaryman was touted as a black comedy, and I found it dull as well. TBH, I felt like Crown Princess Hwa-young in Rooftop Prince. These people were being clever and witty, and their cleverness and wit just went over my head.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate The King. I don't really dislike it either, and I'm willing to give it another shot. It's just that it bored me, and it's one of the worst crimes a show can ever commit.

In other kdrama news, I've decided not to give Fashion King a try. I love Yoo Ah-in and I'm glad he finally has a lead role, but I'm allergic to fashion dramas and makjang.

For the life of me, I can't summon an ounce of interest for The Equator Man and Love Rain. I don't do revenge stuff (unless it's Mawang, perfection made from heaven about The Devil himself) so no TEM despite Uhm Tae-woong. I pointed and laughed at the season dramas and Jang Geun-seok's successful attempts to look more girly with each drama, so no LR either.

That Strongest K-Pop Survival thing or whatever its title is has been binned as soon as I heard it exists.

kdrama, the king, action
