skip beat: the stupidest thing i've seen in a while
Skip Beat, the TW-drama based on some shoujo manga, is a quasi-cartoon world dominated by morons. That sentence doesn't even do justice to the sheer idiocy that is this show. Siwon was the only good thing here. It's a pity he has so little screen time.
The heroine is an overacting doormat who has deluded herself into thinking her lifelong crush loves her and wants to play house with her. Thus, she runs herself ragged working three jobs just to maintain an expensive apartment he barely even comes home to - and he's a celebrity with tons of money. When she finds out how little he really thinks of her, she vows revenge for her ill-treatment. The ill-treatment she has willingly allowed, by the way. Instead of smacking herself in the head for being such an idiot, she vows revenge, and turns into... something... with clownish hair and 80s Madonna clothes. I mean, I know she has no fashion sense, but even frumpy me knows a fashion disaster when I see one.
Said crush, played by SuJu's Donghae, is a lazy douche who earns a lot but mooches off his poor housekeeper anyway. I can't understand his appeal, aside from the physical one. He's neither sensitive nor sweet, nor does he show any sign of intelligence. If anything, he's nothing more than a spoiled brat more irritating than FBRS's Cha Chi-soo.
Between the two of them, the lousy cartoon scenes and the lousy real-world special effects, and the general stupidity of it all, I'm bailing out after a grand total of one episode. Even my cousin, who's a fan of the manga, was turned off by the sheer amount of stupid.
If the manga is anything like this - and my cousin comments that it is - I won't be touching it with a ten-foot pole, no matter how good anyone says it is.
