Thanksgiving is not about giving.
I decided to sign-up and volunteer with my mom this last thanksgiving, well, actually we volunteered the day before, helping distribute holiday meals, but it turned into a domineering white-man conservative Christian authority over food. It was disguisting. I am so sickened by it, it's hard ot even recall. First, the person had to have a family to receive food, meaning those who already felt alone were forced to feel only that much more alone. Example, a nice, clean, non-drunk, woman who was crippled came up to me asking to receive food and according to the "rules" I was suppose to turn her away. Turn her away? Don't get me wrong i might not be a "christian" but I'm pretty sure that Jesus would not have turned her away from recieving a holiday meal, but that white, older, conservative Christian man saw no objection to it. SO ther I lied, in a church organization, I made everyone who came in have two people in their family if it was only them. Jonny had a point, here are these people already so humble to ask for food, and not lying saying they have 5 people in their family, and we are to turn them away? How disgraceful! How unchristian wouldn't you say?
Then furhtermore, the families, and in order to receive their food, had to sit through a short service, yep. And it wasn't voluntary. How rude to push a religious service on someone! anyone!
The list of atrocities go on from there, and don't even get me started on the white v. minority role! Happy Thanksgiving my arse. This is not to say that all Christians are like this, but that's the whole point... just because you say you are something, doesn't mean anything, especially if you're the guy in the back, singing praises while stepping on another person's toes.
Next time, I'll be volunteering with the pagans.
