Steve Irwin dies

Seriously, how many times have you said "just wait, he is going to die from a croc/snake bite, and it will probably be on film". The irony of him dying to a peaceful animal is almost humorous.

Irwin took a subject that I'd have never believed I'd watch more than perhaps one episode/show about and turned it into a past-time of fairly regular viewing. I occasionally found him to be over the top, but also found his form of education to be effective. I liked the environment that shaped the show and that his wife was a fairly regular part of it (she was the vet after all). He possessed charisma, guts (insanity?) and a drive to bring animals (especially crocs) to light in the "in your face" manner we all know so well. Not to mention all of the interesting countries he brought to light and some of their native people's, daily dilemmas (ie: crocks/snakes where they get water from etc).

Irwin gave reptiles a spot light similar to what Cousteau did for the ocean long before and although he made it clear they were fierce predators, he also gave them a soul. Animals are one of those things that I'd frequently take over people, so I really do appreciate what he did for furthering education about them.

May his family heal with time and his children know him through all the stories that I can only imagine exist about him.

Crikey.
