Author: Nicole Fang
Rating: Pg-13 ~ NC-17
Pairings: 2Min, JongKey
Genre(s): AU, supernatural, a slice of horror (maybe), romance, violence, angst, slight-humor
Summary: There were lines that weren’t meant to be crossed. There was a line for falling for your enemy, and a line for a vampire hunter being in love with a vampire (and vice versa). Too bad Minho and Taemin seemed to cross both. Now they’ll both have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

CHAPTER TWO

A female vampire?

It was surprising. Female vampires were rare; most of the ones living now were the ones who had been born into the blood-sucking linage. To see one out here, and slowly walking toward them with confidence radiating from the air she put out, was just mind-blowing. Minho could almost have called it an honor.

Almost -

if not for his hate of the damn things.

In his head, he ticked off another vampire in his head. This one should…would be the same as the others he had taken on and killed off. He tried to shake off the doubt in his heart.

However, another voice in his head suddenly piped up; something was different about this one. There was a tinge of something, he didn’t know what, but chills were now breaking down his whole body, not just his spine. The rush he’d been feeling since this chase started seemed to overflow until it clogged his mind, causing him to feel fear, of all the damn things, in that one split second.

He couldn’t remember a time when he’d felt fear since his first mission alone. It was new and foreign and, frankly speaking, he didn’t like it. Minho was determined to get it out of his system, gripping the daggers he held even harder.

Still, Minho couldn’t help but take in the female vampire with his eyes. Many of the vampires he’d encountered hadn’t been good looking - it seemed like most of the myths about all vampires being gorgeous were wrong. However, this one was very pretty with her dirty blonde flowing, and curling just at the ends, stopping short of her breasts.

Another myth that was wrong about vampires? Their paleness; not all were chalk-white, sick-looking bastards. But as he stared at her, the moonlight hit her just enough for him to realize exactly how pale she was.

It was like seeing a whole new species under a microscope. Another shiver shot up his spine in tingling awareness. What happened to the ugly idiots he was used to seeing?

Her pale pink lips curled up into a smile, though Minho thought it more of a smirk than anything else, as her dark eyes scanned them from top to bottom. This was the part that he hated about vampires. No matter who he faced, they all looked at him like they were hungry, rabid dogs and he a piece of juicy steak. He grit his teeth as his eyes narrowed on her, irritation starting to flow in his veins with the adrenaline.

As if sensing his thoughts, Jonghyun snorted in disgust too, out loud and not bothering to cover it up at all. The vampire’s eyes flashed at the disrespect, bloodlust in her expression fading as a glare started to shift on her face.

“Someone needs to teach you manners, you dog.”

The words startled Minho from his observations. The vampire had been the first to talk, looking completely at ease even though there were two hunters right in front of her. She was either very dumb to be looking that relaxed, or completely confident in her abilities to take them down.

It didn’t matter anyway. They were about to make the first move. The early bird gets the worm, as they say.

Minho didn’t even blink when Jonghyun disappeared from behind him, only to reappear behind the vampire in a split second. Their bodies were trained to keep up with vampires, after all. If Jonghyun couldn’t do this much, Minho would’ve had to do all the work, and he would’ve been pissed to say the least. He never did like slackers much…

Something like alarm bells went off in his head when the vampire just smiled, her pearly-white teeth flashing in the moonlight as she ducked, grabbing Jonghyun’s outstretched arm that had just tried to get a hold of her head, and tossed the man as if he weighed nothing.

Jonghyun hit the bricks hard, grunting in pain. He spit out a little blood. “Shit, what a bitch,” Minho heard him mutter under his breath, and he couldn’t stop himself from a very brief roll of his eyes. He hasn’t changed much since trainee days, had he?

Minho caught the slight displeased purse of lips from the vampire in front of him and a smirk briefly crossed his lips. At least Jonghyun made things a little entertaining.

He looked back at the vampire, and both started to size the other up. Minho couldn’t help but sigh internally. It seems like this one will be a little on the hard side.

She clucked her tongue in what seemed to be disappointment after scanning him.

“Are you guys going to give me any entertainment at all before I kill you?”

It was as if her confidence knew no bounds.

Almost laughing out loud from the statement, a dark thought flashed in his mind. Man, vampires always seemed to make a quick judgement on him because of his tall and lanky form…if only they knew the muscles these clothes were hiding away from the world. He wasn’t in that goddamn building since his family was killed for nothing.

During the time of his growth from a once-upon-a-time happy child to an orphan and trainee, he’d become a lethal weapon.

Minho liked breaking these types the best. He could at least admit to himself that he was a sadist when it came to these creatures.

Flexing his fingers on the grips of his twin daggers, Minho shifted his stance when Jonghyun hopped up from the ground. Their eyes met for a brief second, and in their eagerness to witness this bitch get totally and utterly defeated, they decided to keep on toying with her.

Not only vampires could be deadly in this world. It was about time they prove that.

--

The moonlight streamed in from the large window, the only light that could be seen. The room was large, and yet nothing lay in it except for one elegant king sized bed, and a chair. Though the bed was unoccupied, the chair held one vampire, who was leaning against the hand rest and letting his legs dangle off the other side.

The vampire stared out unblinking to watch the moon, face set in marble perfection, not a clue of a wrinkle on his smooth face, glowing in all its beauty. His blank, almost cold eyes took in all from his third-story window.

The door to his room opened, letting in a stream of light, and he sat quietly, waiting for the other to speak from the doorway.

“You should come out, Taemin.”

A flash of curiosity sparked in his eyes as he moved his head to stare at the newcomer. Taemin cocked his head to the side.

“Is there something going on, umma? I heard the commotion all the way up here.”

Key’s eyes rolled, flashing silver to show his annoyance a brief second before they returned to normal. Taemin restrained his laugh - it seemed like something had made Key more exasperated than normal. Usually it would take a while for the eye roll to come out.

“Jessica found her way into trouble with a couple of Hunters and got herself cut up. That stupid bitch,” Key complained, muttering profanities and a scowl marring his otherwise perfect features. “I don’t get why we keep tools like her. She’s-”

“We do have a race and noble blood to carry on, umma,” Taemin pointed out, one side of his lips quirking into a half-smile. Leave it to Key to be able to cheer him up in a matter of seconds. He turned his head back to the moon, glancing at it for one last time before stretching and rising to his feet languidly. He bounced on the balls of his feet before moving over to the door.

Key twisted his lips in irritation, but his expression shifted when he saw Taemin getting up from his chair. Walking past the door, he stopped the other in his tracks to make sure his baby’s hair was in perfect condition.

Lips quirking once again into a small smile, Taemin allowed himself to be babied. He was used to it after experiencing it for centuries. Key eyed his smile for a second before rolling his eyes again and turning away with a very small huff; he knew when he was secretly being made fun of. Lucky for Taemin, Key loved him otherwise he would’ve gotten hurt by now.

Key grabbed Taemin’s hand, leading them out of the room and down the dark hallway before continuing their conversation quietly.

“I just find it stupid how we’re making the same mistakes the humans are… Special treatment shouldn’t be given to those who are rich.”

“Key hyung, females aren’t only rich, they’re also-”

“Very valuable these days, I know.” Still, Key had a stubborn edge to his tone. Taemin shook his head lightly - he might as well give up for now, Key wasn’t going to buy into anything he’d say for now.

Being rich and valuable weren’t the only qualities of female vampires either. A lot seemed to be coming out more powerful than ever. The only ones who seemed to be able to match their power were a few Elite ranking male vampires, Taemin and Key included. He was proud of that achievement.

Humming quietly, Taemin swung their clasped hands almost childishly, an innocent smile gracing his lips as they continued to walk in the dark. Because they were on the third floor, they would have to pass by a few people, and Taemin couldn’t allow himself to show anything but a slightly naïve and happy face. No one except for Key and one other knew about his true self, and he wanted to keep it that way.

He snuck a peek at Key, only to see him smiling at how Taemin was acting. He held back another shake of his head; just because Key knew about his real self didn’t mean that Key didn’t like the displays of childish innocence every once in a while.

A realization struck him.

“Where are we going, umma?” he asked, voicing his question out loud. “You never told me why you came to get me…”

Key seemed to lose his smile and Taemin frowned at the seriousness displayed. A foreboding feeling flooded his consciousness.

Not this again…
