A friend of mine's daughter is doing the Multiple Sclerosis readathon this year, to raise money for MS research. How could I go past sponsoring someone for reading, particularly for charity?! I'm trying to increase the percentage of my income that I contribute to charity, so it was an easy choice anyway

I have also had a sponsored child through World Vision for 6 years. I get progress reports on him every 6months and just this morning I posted his 14th birthday card. I believe that I have certainly been able to give him the gift of schooling and satisfactory health.
I regularly donate to Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Cancer Council, Epilepsy Association, etc.
This mothers' day, my mother, my sister, my niece, my grandmother and I will all participate in the Mother's Day classic for the 4th year in a row. This is fun run/walk to raise money for Breast Cancer research. My grandmother is 82 years of age and has already raised $150 in donations. I think that this sort of effort is definitely to be commended! However, it means the bar has been set. So, if anyone wants to support my fund-raising effort for this walk/run, please let me know!
I participate in many fun runs, marathons, for personal interest, but will always make a one-off donation with my entry for causes such as Cancer Research, MS, etc.
As some of my friends would know, I am currently about one fifth of my way through a Bachelor of Social Science degree. I would like to be able to use this, once I have completed some fundamental basics, to register my services with http://www.govolunteer.com.au/ and offer counselling to less priveleged individuals, particularly children and domestic violence cases.
Anyway, I could go on and on... I dream of being able to AFFORD to do charity work 24/7, to give something back to the community, because I really feel like I have lived a relatively priveledged life. Perhaps one day I will!!
