I am nerd-core

Skip this post. It is just me yammering about computers, and I'm sure you don't care.
So a couple weeks ago I toasted Lorrie's Desktop, which I then replaced with a decent newer Compaq. I then replaced the power supply unit I toasted on her old HP, and today I bought a monitor ($7 at the ARC thrift store!) for it, so it is up and flying. After removing at least 15Gb of John Mayer music and photos, it is even running well! I also dropped down to Microcenter and picked up a sexy new GeForce 6200 graphics card for it with a SEXY 256Mb of DDR RAM (I'm getting an erection just typing it). So it is now running smoother than the new desktop I bought Lorrie (mainly because it isn't infested with that Vista virus Microsoft calls an OS).
But the computer gods say that I can't have more than one functioning computer, so suddenly my lovely little Dell X200 laptop started not displaying things, instead just showing a rainbow of iridescent colors, which, while pretty, is sort of useless for most things.
But, as I am always one to spit in the face of the computer Gods, and, thanks to the beauty of Ubuntu Linux, I was able to get a command line and reset all the graphics settings (they had befuckered themselves when I briefly used the RCA output on the laptop) while in text only mode, and I write this now from the slick environs of the Ubuntu desktop.
So now I have a desktop that is stripped and ready for graphics, and my lovely little lass of a laptop for doing "work" (whatever that is).
