Some of my pictures from 5 May. Click on the pic for a bigger version. Click again if it's not big enough *g*
I barely had the time to finish my visit of the castle upon arriving that morning before things started to happen in the training field.
I had to finish because I had been rudely interrupted the day before by some people in costumes apparently filming some medieval series. The nerve.
The stairs, decked with a faux-leaves and wood garland. Must have been some scene for a banquet or a feast filmed there.
Later, during the scene where Merlin has to run up the stairs to the main entry - more on that later - I'll spot an extra walking with the wood garlands in his hand. Now that's continuity!
It's around 10:00 AM, it's already quite warm, everyone is wearing a tee-shirt. Except one man, who's wearing a fleece jacket. Guess who? Yep, Colin Layers Morgan.
Already tired, Eoin ?
Well at least he has his shirt on ;o)
No comments needed *g*
Somehow, the make-up department felt it was important to enhance Percival's biceps with some make-up. Had a good laugh over that. Oh, half-shirtless Eoin in the background.
At some point, Colin left the training field and at first, not a lot of people followed.
At first, it was the rehearsal of the extras in the courtyard, just an everyday-scene of them milling around. I don't know who had the idea to put the maidservant shaking the bedspread at the window, but I thought it was great. We waved at her, she waved back and mocked-posed like a model, lol.
After several repeats of this, Colin - whom we had spotted just inside the doors - came down the stairs. His scene was to run through a bit of the courtyard and then up the stairs and inside, slaloming between the extras.
At one take, he actually fell flat in the stairs but stood up immediately and finished the scene as if nothing had happened. If my memory serves me well, Angel/Gwen took a slip down those stairs the day before as she was running after Bradley/Arthur in the quarrel scene. It's true that those stairs aren't very large to it's easy to lose your footing.
Colin and his trademark hopping before a scene.
He also pinches his nose/forehead before a scene with dialogue. He did that each time during his scene with Bradley/Arthur on the training field.
Should Merlin be worried? ;o)
Also... Hands on hips *g*
Note that Colin is wearing the two jackets of the costume. It must be like 30°C.
At some point, a cart arrived, with jugglers already in make-up. The cart was then decorated and was placed at the entrance of the castle, with peasants behind it. There were several takes of the jugglers' arrival at Camelot, with them throwing confettis and the peasants shouting and laughing behind.
It was a bit difficult because the starting point was just besides the training field so the two filming units had to coordinate so that the noise of the jugglers wouldn't disturb the filming of the conversation between Arthur and Merlin. It didn't always work.
The jugglers were rather rude, making not so funny jokes, being noisy on purpose when filming was going on the training field, playing lousy pranks on the tourists. There were just being their French selves, I guess ;o)
I went into the courtyard before leaving.
This is how they make confettis in Camelot, lol.
Wonder who shredded the sheets of paper?
I visited a bit of the castle again, went through the corridor overlooking the village. I saw tourists in it and that's how I realized it was open to the public that day. I just had the time to go before taking the bus back to Compiègne. The village looks so real!
I'll edit my previous entry about 4 May when I have the time.
