zakir hussein concert last night. amazing. utterly ethereal. i sound dumb when i say this, but one of the raagas with sarod and sarangi accompaniment literally made me cry. it was unreal, at times i forgot i was sitting in a concert hall. an american man sitting next to me looked like he was in a trance the whole time and every 5 minutes or so he'd look at me and cry "amazing!" that was the effect hussein and his troupe had on everyone. the manipuri dancers were also amazing. the magic of indian classical music is that there is no sheet music. everything's either improvised or memorized, and these are not simple taals, man. all i know is that music and dance will always remain a large part of me throughout my life.
