I've really been on a livejournal kick the last few days, which is very unusual. I figure that this doesn't happen often and I have a lot more stuff going on in my life than I normally do, so why fight it? However, I'm going to try to keep myself under control and not write the gigantic entries I normally do.
I'm definitely going to come home a little chubbier than normal. I've been eating a lot more here than I did last semester and eating out a lot more too. It's a little surreal to be living in Paris and it's very temporary. Thus I've decided that I'm going to have lots of gastronomic adventures and worry about the few extra pounds this summer.
Surprisingly, Paris has been excellent for my cooking skills. Tonight I made honey mustard chicken and Christie cooked up some vegetables. I have to say it was quite the success. allrecipes.com has become one of my staples. I could kick myself for not cooking more last semester, all the things I've tried out have been very easy to make, even with our limited kitchen equipment. On Sunday, we're going to have Thanksgiving dinner despite the fact that it's March. I'm excited to try to make stuffing and have been searching around for some good dessert recipes. Dessert will always be my favorite part of the meal.
Speaking of dessert, I'm going to make chocolate cake tomorrow to celebrate my mom's birthday.
Today I went to Starbucks. I left the apartment more in the mood for a cafe creme, but I didn't have too much time and I knew where the Starbucks was in the area where I wanted to go. Starbucks = guaranteed to be stuffed with Americans. We really have very ugly accents, but sometimes it's nice to hear familiar-sounding voices. My cafe mocha was SOOOO good. My scone was also very good. I've developed a love for them in Paris. Strange, no?
After Starbucks, I was planning on following another one of my cards, but time didn't allow for that. Instead I found a Parisian version of a mall right off of St. Germain des Pres. I wandered into a store and was immediately drawn to the heavy sweaters that were on sale. I love sweaters, but I need to start leaning more toward blazers. Blazers are so easy, yet they look good on everyone and make even tee shirts look polished. I always admire people who always look put together and style their hair. One of the Canadian girls, although I'm coming to realize she may not be that great of a person, always looks great. I need to learn how to wake up a little earlier to do something with my hair besides pull it back and invest in some nicer clothes to work into my wardrobe. Not formal business attire, but pieces that fit me well, look good, and can be dressed up. I may even end up working at a casual company when I graduate, but my boss Molly last summer, always managed to look great in her long flowy skirts and awesome shoes.
I have a phone interview tomorrow at 11:30pm my time. It's for a marketing company in Utah, so the time change is even less compatible than it would be if the person was calling from the east coast. I'd be writing articles for this company part time from home and would receive a $500 stipend after 150 articles. I would love to get this (150 articles would make quite the portfolio), but I hope that I'm able to get something else for this summer too. Although I'd like to get a paying internship, even if it's waitressing, I want something to get me out of the house, keep me busy, and interacting with new people. But tomorrow will be dedicated to rereading tons of monster.com articles about interviewing, memorizing the company's website, trying to figure out what exactly these articles are on, and deciding how to present myself to let them know that I can do a kick-ass job at this if they give me a chance.
