(no subject)
The one thing that makes me realize that I am back in my home country is the fact that my internet connection gets blown off every now and then and doesn't get repaired.
So. Yesterday it rained, and BAM! The internet is broken. So I call the ISP:
"You have to wait 8 minutes, all operators are busy right now."
"That's a lot of money added to the bill. Hmm. No wonder the ISP belongs to the entire Telecom. Anyway."
And I wait wait wait while Vivaldi's Four Seasons: Summer gets remarkably annoying as it is played on the phone.
"Hello, how may I help you?"
"I'm having trouble connecting to THE INTERNETS."
"Okay. What's your line?"
"Blahblahblahahrhg."
"Okay... oh--there's something wrong in your area so you can't connect right now."
"Something wrong? What is it?"
"*pause* Something."
"*left eye twitching* Is it being fixed, and when will it be fixed?"
"*pause* Er. Sometime today."
"*goes beet red* Okay. Then. What's the encapsulation protocol and the VCI and VPI?"
"*PAUSE* (Why do you WANT to know?) Blahblahahahr."
"Okay, thanks. (This is not how it is like in Europe, I hate you people, a little rain and some thunder and your 'fiberoptic' cables under the freaking sea explode, you're the one that's fiberoptic, and take that cable up yours, and I will make sure to sue you when I have time.) *wham*"
Oh, and I'm not even mentioning just how frustrated and tired the woman on the line before that was. "Bleah. Hey. Help you. Yeah. That's what I'm supposed to do but I just don't want to. Bleah. SPEAK."
Aah, I love this country.
