Live music

I always forget just how good London is for live music, and it's one of those things I ought to force myself to remember.

Inevitably, every band worth its salt plays here whenever they're touring, so one of my belated new year's resolutions is to take more frequent advantage of that fact, even if the local venues are often populated by irritatingly trendy, well, London types. The flipside of the coin is that there tends to be more room for and tolerance of a diversity of genres and the like, and it's the more mainstream stuff that tends to attract the total arseholes.

So I went to see the Decemberists recently, which, whilst not a life-changing experience - is any gig once you're past the age of 25? - was still cause for much enjoyment and stupidly happy grinning. I've already got tickets in my pocket for Explosions In The Sky this coming week, Marissa Nadler later in March and 65daysofstatic in May, and now, thanks to the wonders of the recommended event calendar on last.fm (discovered via a tip-off from Sam), I'll be investing in evenings with iLiKETRAiNS, Einstürzende Neubauten and A Silver Mt. Zion as soon as ticketweb.co.uk fix their online shopping engine - hopefully in the morning.

Plus there's Beovizija in a couple of weeks from now, though that doesn't quite fall into the London category. :) It'll be nice to go to something with Sam, however, particularly since it's not as if much of the above would appeal to both of us.
