Jared sighed, resting his head against the backseat and closing his eyes as Jensen and Eliza started yet another pointless argument.
"You are such a music snob! Just because it isn’t Johnny Cash or something that Chris and Steve wrote-"
"It’s Michelle Branch and some chick! Michelle Branch is a happy little acoustic rocker girl; she can’t sing country! I can’t believe you bought that crappy CD!"
"Well, I like it," Eliza said petulantly. "So there."
Jensen laughed. "God, your maturity astounds sometimes, you know that? Not that it’s not adorable…"
"Are we there yet?" Jared cut in, not caring how juvenile he sounded. "We’ve been driving around for like an hour."
"Should be soon," Eliza promised, tossing him a grin over her shoulder. "Why? Are you excited about the little date I set up?"
He wasn’t. In fact, Jared was pretty sure that going on a date right now would be as exciting as getting a root canal (and he’d had his fair share of experience with those thanks to his sugar addiction).
Things just hadn’t been the same since he’d broken up with Sandy, and he had spent the better part of three months laying around his apartment with Sadie during hiatus. Jensen said he was being a girl, but Jensen had obviously never had to get over a long term relationship, but part of him knew that he was right (not that Jared was going to admit that, ever).
It was time to move on, heck Sandy would probably want him to move on, and if Eliza was going to set him up with one of her hot friends, he really shouldn’t argue, right?
Jared nodded, content with this theory and started compiling a list of every single one of those hot cheerleaders in Bring It On when the car came to a stop.
"We’re heeere," Eliza sang, turning off the ignition. "You look presentable, Jare?"
"Eliza, this is Jared we’re talking about. When does he ever look presentable?"
"Very funny," Jared mumbled, getting out of the car and walking into the club.
It wasn’t anything spectacular, just your typical LA hotspot that probably wouldn’t be so hot in a few more months. Jared settled in on a stool at the bar, sipping an overpriced beer as he watched Eliza and Jensen on the dance floor.
Mystery girl wasn’t there yet, but Eliza promised she would be. He tried to get more out of her, a name, a movie, anything but she just kept right on grinning and Jensen kept right on being a jackass.
The two of them made quite the pair on the dance floor, even if she seemed to be doing most of the work while Jensen sat back and watched, that trademark Dean Winchester smirk on his face.
"They’re pretty, aren’t they?" an unidentified voice asked from behind him.
Jared turned around and found himself staring into the prettiest pair of blue eyes that he had ever seen. "Really pretty," he said, even though he wasn’t sure he was talking about his best friend anymore.
"She seems happy," the girl commented. She sat down next to him, smoothing out her black dress. "But I guess I can see why."
"Yeah, I guess," Jared said awkwardly. "Um, hey, can I buy you a drink?"
The girl giggled. "Wow, you work fast. Um, sure, a Cosmo, please."
Jared watched her as the bartender fixed her drink. He was pretty sure he’d seen her somewhere before, but maybe that was just wishful thinking. You remembered a pretty girl like this one, but she was more than that. She wasn’t your generic apple pie pretty, there was something strange and beautiful about her. A girl who looked like a mystery, and who probably had a million asshole guys tell her she was one.
She looked over at him with those wide blue eyes as she took a sip. "Problem?"
"Nothing, I was just…"
"Staring?" she offered with a smile.
"Maybe just a little," he admitted. There was a short pause and Jared found himself desperate to fill it. "So, wow, a Cosmo, huh?" he blurted awkwardly.
She nodded sagely. "Yup. Trendy, I know, I just…it’s pink!" she said as if that explained everything.
"Yeah, its…pink."
"What I mean is, how many times in your life can you drink a pink beverage? Not many, so Cosmos it is."
"Good philosophy."
She beamed. "Thank you! It’s my firm belief that it’s the little things that count."
Jared smiled. "My momma always says that."
"Oh my god, did you just say momma?!" She put a hand over her heart. "That was sweet right there, you better stop being such a Texan before I’m forced to pinch those dimples right off your face."
Jared laughed. "How did you know I was from Texas?"
She nodded toward his belt buckle. "Make it pretty obvious, cowboy. So, have you ever been a rodeo guy or what?"
Jared opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by the sounds of a squealing Eliza. "You’re heeeere!"
"Yeah, I have been for-"
"Not you, Jared," she snapped, throwing her arms around the girl next to him. "I meant her!"
"You two know each other?" he said, confused.
"Of course I know Zooey. And it looks like you do too."
The girl, Zooey, apparently, waved timidly. "You would be Jared, right?"
"I would be," he said with a grin. "Have I mentioned how much I love Eliza?"
