Morgan supposed it was only natural to find two people all over each other in her kitchen during a party she hadn’t wanted to happen in the first place.
That sort of stuff happened all the time around this house, whether she still lived in it or not, it just wasn‘t the two people she had been expecting.
“Oh… wow, I’m sorry,” she stammered, shifting her laptop under arm and heading back toward the living room.
“No, it’s okay,” Theo said quickly, wiping his palms on his jeans. “I was just gonna so say hi to Sam anyway.” He shot Jake an apologetic glance before hightailing it to the other room.
She bit back a smile, sitting her laptop on the kitchen counter before rooting through the vegetable crisper.
“That wasn’t… what it looked like,” Jake said awkwardly, breaking the silence.
“Of course.” She nodded, polishing an apple on her skirt. “It didn’t look like you were making out with Theo at all.”
His eyes widened. “You… you could’ve knocked, you know!”
“It’s my house! Besides, kitchen is the first place someone would look for two skateboarders indulging in some same sex smoochies.”
They drifted into tense silence before Jake finally got over his shock to speak. “Wow, Sam was right! You are unbelievable.”
“Well, I am pretty amazing,” she joked, biting into her apple. “And Sam can say whatever she wants about me. I haven’t exactly given her a reason to invite me to all her slumber parties.”
Jake shook his head. “Right. Look, like I was saying…”
“I’m not gonna tell anyone. And I’m not even freaked out, so you can calm down, Romeo.”
He slid onto the stool next to her. “You’re not? Oh god, you’re not one of those girls who gets off on guys making out are you?” he asked, making a face.
“Hardly.” She giggled, looking around the room before leaning in closer. “Can you keep a secret?”
“Of course. Besides, it’s not like I have any choice now that you know mine.”
“I have a girlfriend back at school,” she whispered, a smile playing at the corner of her lips.
“Really!?” Jake squinted, studying her carefully. “Wow, you don’t look like a…”
“What, a lesbian? I’m sorry, you couldn’t tell. I left my scarlet L at home today,” she said sarcastically, opening her laptop.
“No, it’s not that,” he said quickly. “You’re just… kinda hot.”
Morgan laughed. “Thanks, I think. We’re not all covered in scales, you know.”
“Of course. I mean, look at Xena.”
“Ew,” Morgan said, wrinkling her nose. “She was hot until about season two, then her leather got a little too tight, and not in the good way.”
“Wow, you really are a lesbian, aren’t you?”
Morgan sighed. Jake was looking at her like he‘d found a unicorn or something. “Yes! Should I prove it? You want me to grab Sam and start making out with her or something?”
“Yes, please!” Jake exclaimed gleefully until Morgan punched him in the arm. “Hey, I was kidding! God, you remind me of my sister! She’s a pain, all violent, just like you.”
“Is she a lesbian too?”
“No. Oh god, at least I don’t think so.” He shuddered. “She’s kinda obsessed with Theo’s brother.”
“How cute! It’s like a family tradition, you all make out with each other!” She smiled and opened Word, typing quickly.
‘Very funny,” Jake mumbled, peeking over her shoulder. “What are you typing anyway?”
“Stuff,” she said innocently.
He rolled his eyes and started to read. “Buffy cupped Faith’s breasts in her hands and started to… that is hardly innocent, Morgan! Sounds a hell of a lot like porn!”
“It is smut with character development!” Morgan snapped.
“Touchy!” He giggled, reading as she typed. “Well, I found some smut with character development on Theo’s computer once.”
“Really? Did he write it?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Oh,” Morgan said softly, trying not to sound disappointed. “Would have been cool to have someone to talk smut with character development with.” She sighed, suddenly curious. “ Well, what was the pairing?”
“Huh?” Jake asked, looking at her like she was speaking Chinese.
“Who were the characters?” she said patiently.
“Harry and Peter. You know, from Spiderman?”
“Of course. God, Peter and Harry are practically canon. Especially if we’re talking the movie. You know, I read this really awesome real person fic about James and Tobey once. Leo was so pissed. It was really…” Morgan trailed off as she glanced over at Jake who was currently looking at her like she had three heads. “It doesn’t matter,” she said quickly. “So, was that how you found out that Theo was into guys?”
He shook his head. “Not really. I just assumed he had it bookmarked by accident or something.”
Morgan’s eyes widened as she choked on a chunk of apple. “He had it bookmarked!?”
“Shut up,” Jake hissed, pushing a glass of water towards her. “He doesn’t know I saw it!”
“So, how did you know? Or did I walk in on your first little encounter or something?”
“Hal and Sam were kinda helpful, actually.”
“Helpful?”
“They provided the booze that got us brave enough to make out,” he explained.
“Ah,” Morgan said, sipping her water. “Booze makes you do the wacky. Believe me, I know.”
Jake nodded, curious about how she did, but decided not to press it. “So, what’s this girlfriend of yours like?”
Morgan smiled. “What do you wanna know?”
“Well, does she have a name?”
“Erin.”
“She as pretty as you?”
She blushed. “She’s gorgeous. And stop telling me I’m pretty! Don’t want your boyfriend coming after me.”
“Just making an observation,” he said calmly. “Fine, so she’s pretty. What else?”
“Why do you care!?” she snapped. “Oh god, you’re gonna get off on this later, huh?” She sighed, reaching over and taking a sip of Jake’s beer.
“For your information, my fantasies seem to revolve around making out with Theo in a confessional.”
“Oh god, you’re Catholic!?” She exclaimed, beer flying everywhere in a very ungraceful spit take. “Oh wow, and I thought I had issues.”
“Nice,” Jake said dryly, handing her a napkin, as he wiped off his shoulder. “And my parents… well, they say they are. Point is, I had it forced on me. It was never my choice.”
“That sucks,” Morgan said sympathetically. “So I’m guessing you haven’t told them.”
Jake shook his head, oddly quiet for the first time in their conversation.
“It’s okay,” Morgan softly, squeezing his shoulder. “My mom doesn’t know yet. Nobody knows, really. Well, except for you and Aaron, I guess.”
Jake looked up, smiling a little. “You have a secret? You seem like the kinda person whose kind of an open book.”
“Not about everything,” she said, shaking her head. “I’m… scared, I guess.”
“You shouldn’t be. From what Hal tells me, your mom seems pretty cool.”
“She is but…”
“You think everyone will think of you differently,” he supplied.
“Exactly. And I shouldn’t because… I’m really happy, you know? I shouldn’t be scared like it’s something bad.”
Jake nodded. “Wow, this Erin’s really something.”
“She is,” Morgan said fondly. “Wait, how can you tell? I barely told you anything.”
“She’d have to be, to deal with you,” he joked.
Morgan smiled. “I suddenly feel very sorry for poor Theo. You should get back to him, you know. He looked awfully disappointed that I interrupted.”
“He did, didn’t he? I guess I should.” Jake grinned, rising from the table. “Hey, Morgan?”
“Yeah?”
“I kinda hope you tell them soon.”
“Yeah? Why’s that?”
“I kinda wanna meet Erin. Maybe I could ask Father Green to make her a saint.”
Morgan giggled. “Next year, definitely.”
