Why do some people wear their shoes indoors?I can sort of understand the other side of the argument, but it still seems really weird to me. To be honest, I always thought that people wearing shoes indoors really only existed on TV, because everyone I know irl takes off their shoes inside their own house, and would do the same at a friend's place,

lolol, i guess the one year said commenter spent in australia just didn't involve insulation or turning on heaters and thus gave them the impression that such things just didn't exist! LOL, oh jess ♥. yeah, i'm not so sure it's really because of temperature, since socks and slippers should be pretty common worldwide and are generally more comfortable to lounge around in.

so in certain parts of the average household, it's acceptable to wear shoes, just not on carpets, then? for us, it's pretty much the same thing, except we only keep our shoes on if we're going to leave right after and just came back to get something - you always walk around the carpet if you've left something on the far side of the room. i find it so fascinating that you'd be considered picky for not wearing shoes at home! i noticed in the comments on that site that friends who asked you to take off your shoes in their house would be considered picky, too - but here, no one would consider you anything if you expected shoes off in the house, 'cause everyone does it.

do you prefer keeping your shoes on at other people's places, then, or would you be more comfortable with them off? i haven't found that it's an asian thing here, either, probably because it's so widespread - even the whitest of people would expect you to take your shoes off at the entrance.

at other people's places i have no real problem taking my shoes off, i mean, i guess as long as it's someone i know. i suppose if say, idk, it's a friend of a friend/parent or something, and we're just stopping by, i can see where the formality thing could come into it, in which case i'd probably wait outside anyway lolol so that's slightly irrelevant. but if someone requests i take them off then i'll do it, no questions asked. for me i figure, you know, fair enough because it's the choice of the owners of the house, but when people are like ? about it, that doesn't make sense to me. on the other side, for our house my general response to people who ask if they should take shoes off is: if you want to, just don't wear them on the carpet /PROJECTING

so like, there're people who are kind of reluctant to take them off if the owner requests that they do so? i guess there's suddenly the question of individual preference if there's a choice between taking them off or leaving them on :o. if you tell others that it's their choice in your house, but you yourself take your shoes off, do they tend to follow suit, or is there no correlation between what they do and what you do?

i guess it's because there are households that literally do not care in the slightest, so for them to have to it's weird. as for my experiences at home i find that either a) they'll automatically take their shoes off because they normally would in their own house, or b) will copy because i do. but, but i guess this is when i walk in with them? if i'm already at home and they show up there's less of b and more of the unmentioned kind of c) will leave them on.

lmao, this is just so foreign to me, to have OPTIONS, OPTIONS. i've always thought that only one option existed, so to hear that all of you guys come from places where there are options is just mind-blowing and warrants hilariously in-depth conversations about something so mundane xD.
