so in certain parts of the average household, it's acceptable to wear shoes, just not on carpets, then? for us, it's pretty much the same thing, except we only keep our shoes on if we're going to leave right after and just came back to get something - you always walk around the carpet if you've left something on the far side of the room. i find it so fascinating that you'd be considered picky for not wearing shoes at home! i noticed in the comments on that site that friends who asked you to take off your shoes in their house would be considered picky, too - but here, no one would consider you anything if you expected shoes off in the house, 'cause everyone does it.
do you prefer keeping your shoes on at other people's places, then, or would you be more comfortable with them off? i haven't found that it's an asian thing here, either, probably because it's so widespread - even the whitest of people would expect you to take your shoes off at the entrance.
