My back is on fire from hiding from my students. I gave out my marks today and apparently in Korea they do things differently than in Canada. They give the WHOLE class list and allow everyone to see each others marks, then they have to sign beside their name to prove they saw their grade. The major problem here being, people compare their marks and come up to me and say, "teacher, how come I got 18/20 but my partner got 20/20?" There are a few problems with this question.
Problem number 1: I have 13 classes of 40 students. I test all those students individually and record their mark. I can't remember WHY they did badly on their speaking test. All I know is I gave them a low or high mark based on what I heard that day, and it was a FAIR MARK based on their performance.
Problem number 2: If you have a low mark, it's probably because you don't speak English very well, which means I can't explain to you in English WHY you did badly. Sure, it's ironic, they should just get it by their not understanding me, but they don't.
Problem number 3: You might have a bad mark based on your talking while I teach. If this is the case, I simply recorded your student number and gave you a REALLY low mark in the student attitude section. Do I remember your face? Probably not. Why? You have the same haircut and glasses as uniform as every other girl in my class. You see the major problem here, right?
