Ms. Trinity College

Your gaze evades, Ms. Trinity College, while you illustrate the U-VISA provision under the Violence Against Women Act, because I asked, & I am predictably entranced by your knowledge & with the care you mediate it. I want to meet your eyes. I feel like St. Anselm, though I can't prove what's there, I believe in something Uncreated & Original in you. I'm not sure you know that your very being challenges the drab, empty courthouse on Harrison; it challenges the vastness of the Chicago winter; it challenges temporality. You're just casually describing your life & learning second-languages & a specifically Catholic compassion, occasionally sweeping sideways your sooty bangs & you've got a sight for your own shoes. If I may, Ms. Trinity College? I believe in your dreams; I think you're the sea I'll never swim.
