Top 6 Ways to Get Out of Your Monday Funk

Sep 15, 2008 20:33

So, we're halfway through September and fall is well under way - tell me that is not depressing. Go on, I dare you. No, really.

Bit of a joke there, sorry. What I'm trying to say is: the reduced amount of light, the drop in temperature and the soggy weather probably isn't doing wonders for your happy-go-lucky attitude, that little bit of optimism that you need to get through the most difficult day of the week: Wednesday!

What? Monday? But Monday is...!!! Okay, I will reach put to your needs and write a list about dealing with Mondays, though I still posit that Wednesdays are the Devil.

6. Play a quick game of Music Catch

Available here, Music Catch is a simple game in which you move your mouse and try to catch the blue and yellow shapes, while avoiding the red ones. The advantage of this game are the shiny colours, the relaxing music and fast paced action. Oh, and the fact it's quick and casual - no way you'e going to waste hours on this like on Desktop Tower Defense.

5. Clean your desk

Your desk is filthy. Probably. And if it isn't it could still use that dusting, couldn't it? It doesn't? What about the drawers - have you sorted through them and threw away the useless things lately? AHA!

Seriously, though: cleaning your desk will take no more than 10 minutes of your time and by the end you will have a nice, organized workspace, just waiting to be dirtied and messed up by your work. It's like a clean sheet of paper - you just can't wait to doodle on it.

4. Turn the radio on

Humans are social animals and stuff, but sometimes there is nobody to be social with. That's when the radio comes in - suddenly, there is another human voice in your presence! Cause the voices in your head don't count.

Radio is much better than the idiot box, because a) free music, b) shorter news and c) you can do stuff while listening to it. Like cleaning your desk, hmmmmmmm?!

3. Read something bad

Really bad. Really, really bad. Stephenie Meyer bad. Bodice ripper bad. I guarantee you, you won't get through more than 5 pages without bursting a blood vessel. Which is good! Angry is good! Angry is not sad! Angry quickly recedes, but the rush remains!

2. Go for a walk

"No-duh" I hear you say. If it's so obvious then, then why are do you do it so rarely?

1. Do some work

Yeah, I'm talking to you. You have some work to do, I know you do. And if you have time to be down, you have time for work. That laundry won't do itself. That CV won't update itself. You're on LJ? When was the last time you updated?

"Keep him busy" was WWII doctors' recipe for shell-shock and trench-fever, which means doing stuff is probably strong enough for Monday funk.

What are your ways for dealing with Monday funk?
