Oblivion is kind of nice, though I do not like it as much as Morrowind. Morrowind was not only well made, it also sported a quite unique setting, much different from the usual castles and knights fantasy, which was accentuated by the Imperial Legion fortresses placed here and there. The building, the creatures and the flora of Morrowind truly made you feel you have travelled to somewhere very different and exploring the cavernous fortresses of the Dweomer made it even more so.

Oblivion, in turn, is set in the Imperial province, which means humans, humans galore. It spices it up a bit, by giving the humans many influences from Roman culture and varying the looks of the constructions from site, especially in the "melting pot" cities, but it still looks very basic. Oh, and the unfortunate decision to have EVERYTHING voice acted leads to very little conversation options.

The character system also becomes more basic: there are less skills, lockpicking and persuasion have gained some silly minigames, there are less magic effects and the potions, magic items and spells you can make are noticeably weaker. What I do like is that negative effect potions now have use as poisons. Oh, and archery is actually fun in this part, though the way I play it makes it feel like Metal Gear Solid, but with Detect Life instead of infrared sensors.

Supposedly, many of the community mods make for a better playing experience, but I want to finish the game in vanilla first, at least the main quest. Which is very boring and less involving than in Morrowind. Morrowind's may have been pretty basic, but somehow it seemed more colourful.

Also, speaking of mods: only 4 or so mods improving the looks of men. Over 20 for women, most of which involve nudity and H-cups. Oh, and tons of katanas and other wapanese crap. Sigh.

Dad dug up some old video tapes of me and Albert as kids. Mom and dad love them, of course, but me and bro cringe. I guess this is how it works. Maybe one day we will look back at these with fondness.

Driving lessons resume next week. I wanted to finish them before the New Years, but first I got sick, then I got sick again and then the weather made driving impossible. I would have resumed last week, but I got sick again. This time I got fed and went to a specialist. He still has no idea what the fuck is going on, but he got me some medicine that is supposed to help. The pills are for two different conditions and I'm not sure whether they are working yet, to be honest.

update what update, lists, on the ongoing, vidya gaems, yet another gaming post
