(It's all about portfolios for art kept in one specific place. This has revolutionized my own art search and retrival around here).
Day passes do sound interesting. I'd like to go in and do one edition all in one day if possible... rather than this a few hours here and a few hours there. I got a hand-out with the options for use of the studio. I would imagine you are fully "qualified" by their criteria, as you have, after all, taken several courses, so aggregate attendance is surely more than sufficient.
To be honest, my lab attendance has been rather abyssmal (though, I only just received a necessary part today, because buying parts is absurdly riddiculous*), but I'm working on it. My time, however, is definitely my own to schedule. I'm sure I can manage lunch or tea sometime. I figure if I go to the lab half-time, that's plenty, so I tend to think Mondays and Fridays are my own (but again, it's all up to me).
*seriously, it's no wonder the economy is in trouble when one cannot even buy things without montains of paperwork and three dozen emails.
