The July sun was relentless, taking its toll on the landscape, scorching even the hardiest of plants. Nowhere was this more apparent than the desolate country lane where this story begins.

On this day in particular, everything was quiet, every sane animal squirreled away in their dens or trees. Everything except…

Hand in hand, the couple kicked up the dust as they strolled along the lane.

“But Arthur dear, wouldn’t it have been quicker to floo inside?”

“Floo? And not carry you across the threshold? I just wish we could have afforded to have the carriage take us all the way here.”

“Couldn’t we have flown?”

Arthur smiled. He knew her feet hurt in those fancy shoes. “I wanted you to see it this way;.”

“This way?”

Arthur beamed. “Stay here. Be right back.” He bounded from the path and into the grass, returning with folded hands. “Put out your hands and shut your eyes.”

As always, Molly peeked. Arthur always had the nicest surprises.

“A symbol of my love,” he dropped a tiny white flower in her palm, “With my promise of many more. Next spring the field will be full of them. Now… let’s go see the house.”
