I've decided that Feasting on Asphalt, Alton Brown's new show on Food Network, is the best damn food/travel show on television. It's extremely well shot in 16x9 format (rather astonishing, when you consider the skeleton crew of 3 guys in a truck that are following him around doing all the filming).
The whole thing has a lot of nicely composed shots, and genuinely interesting interviews with small restaurant owners that make Rachel Ray's "candid" stops in local eateries look even more pathetically staged than they really are. Best of all, are the great travel and food quotes from the likes of Tolkien and Kerouac.
It's a really great, well done show, even if you don't care about Food TV.
