Sorry I didn't post a comment for this one sooner... I've been neglecting my LJ. I wouldn't bother commenting at all at this late date, except I feel that this entry partially targeted me. :-P So, I'm here to represent the lazy people of the world, sort of, but not really (in true lazy person form!).

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that you are depressed, and I certainly wouldn't say that you have gone wrong with your life. In fact, I would say there are many people out there (perhaps more than you realize) who envy your achievments.

It's just that it has been my observation that this country is dominated by lazy, un-motivated people (look at our government... look at our President!!) We live in a type of society that praises such behavior. So, many people, like myself, find that it is just easier to remain un-motivated, because the un-motivated people seem to be getting along pretty well! The motivated people tend to be driven to pick up the slack left behind by all the slackers, and thus they become overworked and underappreciated. And that, unfortunately, is just the way it is.

I should say, though, that the whole un-motivated thing isn't really working any better for me than the whole motivated thing is working for you. I think the root of this problem is that we're still young... still in our 20s and new to the "real world," if there is such a thing. I'm beginning to think that the feeling of going wrong with one's life is just part of being a twenty-something.
