The moon, waxing full, hangs low in the sky tonight, so close I can imagine reaching out and touching it. The smell of water and leaves about to turn clings to the inside of my nose and the northern lights dance in the sky - ribbons of brilliant green that shift and flow against a backdrop of stars. I feel connected to the earth, to the goddess.
Then I think of Sue; a 97 pound, cancer-ridden, crack addicted, 53 year old woman who lives in a park on the banks of the river, and I wonder. Does she see the lights in the sky tonight? And do they make her believe in a higher power?
I believe. In spite of everything, I still believe.
And I thank the goddess for another week of warm weather, for Sue's sake.
