I just came back from a meeting at school and found out that a co-worker had passed away three weeks ago. I was very shocked over this. She was a member of the janitorial staff at our school and she spent most of the end of last school term worrying whether or not she will still have her job. I guess she might have "heard" along the grapevine that she might not be rehired. She was in her early '60's, and I believe the district might have been in the process of looking for someone a little younger to take her place. She was worried that she would not be able to continue to pay her mortgage and other bills. At her age, she was definitely not rehireable. She would be sitting in the teacher's lounge every day, I didn't realize she was dealing with this problem. She was such a sweet person and really had a green thumb when it came to growing plants; and was fantastic at baking cakes. I still can't believe she's gone. She died in her sleep I was told--after she finally learned that she no longer had a job. Which brings me back to reality; to live each day as if it were your last; don't spend it doing stupid stuff or saying and doing things you will regret. Do things that can bring happiness to others. There are enough people in the world defiling it, if you still have a light in you let it shine for others. Be encouraging and uplifting. You never know what another is going through in their personal life. Check in and say "hello" every now and then. You will be surprised that THAT may be just the thing they need to make their day a little brighter.
Worrying Accomplishes Absolutely Nothing.
Matthew 6:27-29
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.
1. Worrying is Not Good for You.
Worrying is destructive to us in many ways. It becomes a mental burden that can even cause us to grow physically sick.
Proverbs 12:25
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
2. The energy that we spend worrying can be put to much better use in prayer. Here's a little formula to remember: Worry replaced by
Prayer equals Trust.
Matthew 6:25
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:31-33
So don't worry about these things, saying, 'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
