The train back to Seoul was packed. Hankyung sat by the window, his black coat tugged tightly around him so that he wouldn't catch a cold. The landscape outside was rushing by as everything melted into a blur, and Hankyung raised his hand to touch the cold and dampish glass. No one else paid attention to him as he moved his hand up and down, up and down, preventing the window from steaming up from his hot breath.
Hankyung leaned his head against the backrest of his seat and closed his eyes. He couldn't believe that he still had been in China a few hours ago, sitting next to his mother while talking about his upcoming events with the other Super Junior members. His mother had nodded and smiled all the time while her hand had held his, not noticing that it was shacking.
He had been in China for almost one month, and while he enjoyed spending almost every hour with his family, he had soon noticed that he started missing his friends in Korea, especially Heechul. Hankyung had promised Heechul to call him every day, to send him emails and messages to his cellphone, but it had hurt to hear Heechul's voice over the line without being able to see or to touch him.
"I’m leaving, Heechul …", Hankyung had said on his day of departure, and even though he had known it was only for one month his heart had stung.
"That almost sounds as if you're leaving me forever!" Heechul had said, and his eyes had been bright and shiny, and he had reached out to grab Hankyung's collar. Hankyung still remembered Heechul's hot breath on his lips and the kiss that tasted bittersweet.
Being together with Heechul wasn't the same as being together with anyone else. Hankyung knew that Heechul would always understand him even if it was quiet around them and they were just lying there, staring at the white ceiling above them. Heechul would hold Hankyung's hand and everything would be alright again.
"You know," Heechul had said once, and Hankyung remembered the day as if it had been yesterday, "I really think you've already learned enough Korean."
Hankyung had raised his eyebrows at that- hadn't Heechul always been the one who wanted him to learn more Korean? He had turned around, away from the flickering computer monitor, to look at Heechul. Heechul, who was standing there with his arms crossed, in his long, pink shirt. "Why?" he had asked and the question hung in the air like a heavy weight.
Heechul had grinned and shook his head, taking a few steps forward until he was looking straight into Hankyung's face. "Isn't it enough when I understand you? I don't like sharing, you know?" And he had kissed Hankyung again, again and again for the umpteenth time, because Hankyung had already stopped counting and Heechul had stopped caring. He had kissed him and bit his lip and pushed his hand under Hankyung's shirt to feel the hot skin underneath.
And Hankyung had realised that he really only cared if Heechul understood him.
The nights without Heechul had been lonely, but Hankyung would never tell Heechul just because. Heechul was all about smiling and smirking faces, about pushing his hair out of his face while waggling his eyebrows, and he was all about pestering and mocking Hankyung, and Hankyung loved it more and more.
The nights without Heechul had indeed been lonely, but Hankyung would still never ever tell Heechul this.
"Don't get too used to me," Heechul had said once, lying next to Hanykung while their fingers were entwined, and Hankyung had noticed that Heechul was always the one who led him on.
"Why?" Hankyung had asked again and even though Heechul's face was out of his sight, he could see him smirking. "Oh, just shut up!" Heechul had answered, and he had slung his arms around Hankyung's thin frame. Hankyung remembered Shiwon's words to never take Heechul's statements too seriously.
The next stop was Hankyung's, and he got up and grabbed his luggage, pushing through the narrow aisle. He stepped outside into the cold, out of the train and back onto Seoul's busy streets. The people around him were shoving and pushing, children were yelling and the loudspeakers droning, but Hankyung’s eyes snapped open when he saw Heechul's thin figure leaning against one of the information boards. And Heechul smirked, and his eyes were bright and shiny, and everything was alright again.
