Rm 409, Monday afternoon

There was tons of stuff piled on Amber's bed. Tons. And she was standing there, hands on her hips, trying to figure out how she was supposed to carry all of it with her to take on her camping trip with Liir.

Maybe she had too much junk food. Maybe.

But they needed the flashlights and kerosene lamp. And the frying pan. They would need to cook ( Read more... )

"Has your dresser gone on strike?" Viki asked cheerfully, leaning in the doorway. "Or, perhaps, your bed has turned to thievery!"

This might be her way of asking what was up. Or perhaps she really wondered if the bed was a thief. It was hard to tell with Viki.

Peering over her shoulder at Viki, Amber grinned. "My bed would be full of socks did that happen. No, I am going camping and this is all my stuff I have to take." It wasn't fitting in her bag either.

"Your stuff perhaps then is avoiding your bag," Viki teased. "Or perhaps your bag is shrinking so less might fit and you would have to do without some of it. Why would your bed eat socks?"

Eat. Steal. These are not the same thing, Viki.

Viki never failed to amuse Amber. "My bag is shrinking. I think I need a new one. A big purple bag. 'Course it can't be too heavy or I'll never be able to carry it. And my bed wouldn't eat socks unless that just randomly happened and I only hope not. If I emptied my dresser on my bed, there would be little else but socks," she explained.

"Purple with silver sparkles," she suggested, "so that it'll glitter in the dark and people might find you if you stray. It would be a safety precaution." No, no it wouldn't be. "Get one with the stomach bit? So that it is steadier, and you could carry more? Do you have a fear of losing socks? And stockpile them so they never run out? If a bed ate socks, I do not think I would care to sit on it at all, else it get the bright idea to eat me as well."

"Not a bad idea," remarked Amber, thoughtfully. Purple and silver did look awesome together. Hm. "I do have a flashlight, for safety. And I figured a bag of that sort to be too much for just a single night." Yes, she was camping for one night. Or two. They could come back for the last production and then head back out again. Wait, no. Amber had to work Wednesday. So, just one night. "No fear of losing socks; I collect them. I can't help it. I love socks. If my bed ever decided to eat them? I would have to hack it to pieces to get them all back."

"And pray you did not find them half digested." What? "Which, considering socks, might mean that they have unraveled to form one larger mess of what-used-to-be-socks."

"I think," she said kindly, "that for one night you do not need quite so much. Are you going alone?"

"Which would suck on so many levels. I'd have a huge mess for one, and I'd be out several pairs of prized socks. I think I would have to kill my bed." Nod nod.

"I think you're right, Viki. Problem is, I'm not sure what to give up. No, Liir is coming too."

"And hope your bed did not fight back," she commented, with a laugh and stepped over to glance at what Amber had spread out on her bed. "Would you care for help? If anything, I know to travel light."

No kidding.

"Yah, you betcha, 'cause I would hate that," she laughed. "Oh, sure. I'd love it." There was really too much junk food. Tons of junk food. And five pairs of socks and other articles of clothing. A couple books. A couple flashlights... and on and so forth. "Have you been camping before? I've never been. It should be so much fun. I'm going to tell Liir ghost stories."

"Ghost stories?" Viki asked, looking amused. "Now, you'll be gone for one night--are you wearing what you've on now to go out?"

Amber glanced down at herself. Jeans, t-shirt, flip-flops. "Uh-huh. I decided to keep it simple." She was dressed how she normally dressed and now wondered if her choice was wrong. "You... think I should change?"

Viki grinned. "Your shoes, at least, should be changed so that every bit of dirt and rock and stick doesn't bruise your toes," she suggested. "And bring a light jacket as it still gets cool at night, you can tie that around your waist."

"Oh. Right." D'uh. She kicked off her flip-flops and stepped towards her closet to grab her sneakers. Sitting on her floor, she slid on some socks and began to put her shoes on. "A light jacket. Right. We're going to build a fire too. I thought a pan would be beneficial." She was looking at Viki as she said that, gauging her reaction.

"Is he not the one who cooks?" she asked curiously. "If so, he might bring a pan, as it is a decent idea--perhaps leave that out and ask him before you go? That way there's not two pans."

"Yah, he is," she smiled brightly. "He cooks so good, too. Do you know him?" she asked. "And I'll do that, ask him first."
