Amber met Murdock at the appointed time, her bag slung over her shoulder. She was going home for Thanksgiving and so was he, he just asked her along for the ride, and agreed to drop her off at Mount Rose before he headed on to LA. Portals were awesome things. Yes.
"I'm so excited! Roadtrip! Yay!" Okay, so it wasn't your conventional roadtrip, but whatever, she could be excited enough about it.
Murdock laughed at her and took her bag, ready to get going himself.

"I feel like I should warn you about Loretta again," she said, casting him a sideways glance.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/70846644/14773300)
"Hmm?" he arched an eyebrow slightly as they headed toward the van. "Why for?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/76088775/14183827)
"She'll try jumping you in a matter of seconds," Amber explained.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77049766/14773300)
He snickered. "I think I can handle her." Clearly, he didn't know a thing about Loretta.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/69672488/14183827)
Amber snickered, spoke aloud his thoughts. "Clearly you know nothing about Loretta."
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/75858069/14773300)
"Well, I reckon I'll find out," he grinned. He might just wind up regretting that. "Here we are!" he said, walking up to the van and unlocking the door. "This is BA van's so we if mess it up, he'll kill us both. Or me at least. You he'd probably let off. He likes kids."
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77466634/14183827)
"I have no doubt," she laughed. Poor Murdock. Loretta was horny incarnate if there was such a thing. Amber climbed in. "What do you think I'm going to do? Beat the dash to death? Leave Skittle wrappers everywhere? Make feet prints on the windows?" Hey, just because she's done that before doesn't mean anything.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/74930859/14773300)
"Hey, I'm just sayin'," he put his hands up defensively. "Although if you leave feet prints on the windows or the dash," because he'd done that, yes, "BA is gonna ask." He climbed into the driver's seat. "And then take it outta my hide. He's a little defensive when it comes to his ride." Little? More like a raging warpath if something happened to it.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/76088840/14183827)
"I can look sweetly innocent," she giggled. "Seriously." Amber pulled her seatbelt over her shoulder. "No worries, Murdock. I'm just a teenager. We're easily forgiven our faults."
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77049775/14773300)
"I'll bet you can," he grinned back, pulling on his own seatbelt. "I usually get mine forgiven 'cause I'm nuts," he smirked. "So, you know the first rule of must-haves for a roadtrip don't ya?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/78666532/14183827)
"Actually no, I've never been on a roadtrip before. But if you tell me the driver picks the music, I might throw a fit," she teased.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/74151757/14773300)
He laughed. "Awww, c'mon! You tellin' me you don't like my choice of music?" he teased back. "But that is close to the rule," he pulled out a case of tapes. Yes, tapes. "Gotta have tunes. And!" he held up a finger and produced a bag of goodies. "Snacks! Tunes and snacks." "One last thing." A pair of black shades appeared from a jacket pocket and he put them on like he was The King. "Shades," he grinned.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77747161/14183827)
Amber raised her brows. "Oh my gosh you have cassette tapes! Murdock, if you have the Bee Geess or Barbara Streisand, I'm totally going to have to bail." She was teasing but Lord save her if he really did. "Snacks I can go for; I'm always hungry," she grinned and reached for the bag to see what he had. "Loretta is going to die and go to heaven with you. You do realize that?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77049766/14773300)
"Well what did you think I was gonna have?" he pointed to the van's radio with its cassette player. "CDs were just coming out back then, you know. Unless you got somethin' else to play tunes on." "And to answer your question, no." He actually shuddered. "I'm not that cruel." But he did have a variety of classic rock including Rolling Stones and Beatles. And of course, 80s rock. He rolled his eyes. "Naw, she ain't. I'm attached. Remember?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77818957/14183827)
"I didn't bring anything with me, so that's a negative," she confirmed with a nod. Amber filtered through his tapes after she opened up a bag of chips. "Rolling Stones will work. Beatles too. I'll try not to be picky," she said, smiling at him as she shoved a chip between her lips. "Uh-huh, okay, Murdock."
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77732026/14773300)
He grinned. Surely, mentioning that he had a girlfriend would save him. Right? "There's quite a bit in there," he said, backing the van out of the parking spot and heading out. "I know you're from a bit of a different time than me, but you might find something close to what you might hear on the radio." "And if you get too picky, I'll just sing at ya instead."
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/78666532/14183827)
Nope. Amber laughed. "What you have is fine. I am totally not picky. I was just messing with you. Want a chip?" she asked, extending the bag towards him. "Oh, and when you visit with ma and Loretta, don't answer any questions they might put to you about me. Deal?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/70846272/14773300)
"I know you were," he smirked. "Ooh, chip!" He reached in and took a handfull and proceed to munch while still driving. He's actually a good driver, no worries. An eyebrow went up slightly and he glanced at her briefly. "Oh? What kinda questions do you think they'll be askin'?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/79519389/14183827)
She totally wasn't worried. "They could ask you anything so just nod and shake your head alternately with a smile. It will confuse the hell out of them and hopefully stall any further questions." Amber thought she was smart, yes.
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/70846644/14773300)
He shot her a look from the corner of his eye. "You really think that's gonna work? 'Sides, I think it might be better just to drown 'em out," he grinned. "You know me, I can talk a lot." But he had to ask, "Is there anything in particular you don't want 'em to know?" Adventures in the woods, perhaps?
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/78666532/14183827)
"Yah, you betcha. Concentration's hard for them. And," she shrugged, "I don't want them to know personal stuff, 'kay?"
![](http://p-userpic.livejournal.com/77049766/14773300)
He nodded, "No problemo, muchacho. I'll keep 'em distracted for ya."
